About a week ago I made a pretty good offer for an item on ebay, the seller ignored it completely, I mean ignored it, no decline, no counter offer, I could have understood it if it was a stupidly low offer.
Anyway I had a look at his feedback and decided all things taken into account I didn't want to deal with an ignorant seller so wouldn't be bidding on it.
Had a look back today, he'd set the starting bid low thinking the bids were going to come rolling in like a tidal wave but they didn't, the item sold on auction for a good bit less than I'd offered him.
That oiled my gears. Laughing

An ointment with chilly peppers, menthol and other such stuff oiled my gears today.

On Thursday I've been doing some garden work at my Grandfather's. Digging up the roots of a felled tree, chopping wood etc. On Friday I could barely move my left arm and neck. So, took a day off, spent the weekend playing video games, listetning to music, watching movies... to recuperate. Today, still sore, couldn't visit my GP as I had to go to work. A college of mine suggested I should go to the pharmacy and buy some ointment to ease the pain.

Long story short, I'm usually very sceptical about this stuff but said alright, why not. The lady at the pharmacy recommended me an ointment that contained chilly peppers, menthol, eucalyptus... and other such stuff. The instructions said spread a thin layer of the stuff over the affected area. So I did that, nothing, so I naturally added more (DO NOT ADD MORE!), in just a few minutes after that, tremendous heat sensation in that area. Wondering about whether should I wash it off or leave it. Anyway I left it, the heat sensation got bareable and then even pleasant.

Now it's nighttime, and I'm having the second coat of the stuff over the affected area, and it's amazing. It feels just like having a hot bath to relax the muscles. Thumbs Up

Mrs stinkwheels garmin watch went on the blink. It's an older model so nobody does repairs on them but a new one would be in the £500 ballpark.

It seemed like one of the buttons was being repeatedly pressed. Given there was everything to win and nothing to lose, I took it apart.

Surprisingly serviceable. Came apart with five small torx screws, the display is on a detachable ribbon cable, as is the battery (plus a sticky pad). PCB is held in with two even smaller torx screws.

The buttons were retained in the case by the worlds smallest E-clips which have a tendancy to go airborne on removal but after miraculously finding one on the kitchen floor (they are about 3mm across) I got those out, tiny little o-ring seals on the button stems. Washed the buttons and recesses with 99% IPA and foam swabs which shifted a lot of junk then wiped on a tiny amount of silicone grease for reassembly.

Washed the PCB in IPA, jetted some in and around the suspect microswitch with a syringe and worked the switch in and out a few times.

Dried, silicone grease on the gaskets, reassembled and it's all working properly again.

Absolute win for about an hours work. Mrs stinkwheel is in equal parts delighted she isn't having to spend £500 and pissy she can't go and buy a new watch. The Yorkshire in her is winning though so I'm mostly in the good books.

The tube says ''Cannaderm - Thermolka'' manufacturer ''Simply you pharmaceuticals'', made in Czech Republic. It's one of those ''contains cannabis oil'' ointments (6% of Cannabis sativa seed oil), but can't tell if that does anything. Also, not sure if this is legal outside the EU (in the UK).

Anyway, not to sound like one of those ''nature heals'' types but after 1 week of using this ointment I've got full mobility of my left arm and neck without any pain and I can sleep well again.

Good job you used it, it would probably have taken 7 days if you hadn't

Sure, but at the same time it did ease the pain and quite honestly felt good as well.

Rode up to Lincoln's Inn Field on what turned out to be quite a lovely day. Almost got my lunch stolen by a squirrel Smile

Then the plod closed off the roads. "Rent-a-mob again?" I enquired. "I'm getting bored of this now."

"Obviously I can't officially comment" said the officer, "but I agree" he muttered under his breath Laughing

Did a little post-oil change ride out (ended up being 20 miles). Minimal safety gear - just the helmet. I'm usually double layered in Kevlar all over so was good to feel lighter for a change.

I've been writing some new 6502 assembly code, and due to the number of comments I've added, the one file is too big to hold in memory (on a model B)

I wrote a multi-file assembler for the BBC B/Master, it was published in BEEBUG in 1987.

I am now using said program to assemble my code which I've split into many files ... so 37 years after I wrote it, I'm finding it useful again.

Gears well and truly oiled Very Happy

All the best ... Barry

There is something delightfully perverse about a project with such limited resources. What are you working on, if you don't mind me asking?

Away back in the mists of time, I'd started writing a game along the lines of Repton, but using mode 4, 320*256 monochrome ... modded to 256*256 for to save 2k on screen memory.

I had a few few sprites and maps designed, and had got to the stage where I could wander about the map, climb ropes and chains and get killed by the monsters.

But that was about as far as I got, I think I started getting confused by my own code at some point ... either that or I'd just got my Archimedes then RiscPC.

From three 8 bit registers to 17 (others were used by other parts of the machine) 32 bit registers, everything mnemonic could be conditional, multiple load/stores in one instruction etc.

The beeb was great but the newer machines were better, and in fact due to the art packages I wrote for them (Art Nouveau and Prism), I got into programming as a career ... which allowed me to buy my own house

Any, slightly off track, I've still got all my old discs/code/computers and it's inspired me to try again ... from scratch ... but I'm developing the code on a PC and using BeebEm to try it out ... editing is soo much better than on a beeb Laughing

Took a day off, went cycling, found a pond with this...

*It's not photoshopped, it's not AI and the light was crap as it was about to rain. I was going to go back there again today, with a telephoto lens, but on the way there I managed to drop the chain of my bike in a very frustrating manner. As I wasn't too far I went back home and going to try again tomorrow, hope for better light and hope the rose is still there. The close up image you see is a 30mm lens (26mpx APSC sensor) with heavy crop, no other processing/editing.

I went to Ilford today (for the electrolysis) and whlst I was standing at the bus stop I noticed that the building where the knocking shop I used to "manage" is still there.
(although I thought it had been knocked down Laughing ).
I don't think its a knocking shop any more ...

So I took some photos ... just for old times sake.
They're just ugly gritty urban photos that only a few of my friends would recognise.
It's changed a bit ... but I still have a mental picture of one of the girls climbing out the bedroom window to hide from some robbers ... which would have put her on a roof right out on the high street - either starkers or in her lingerie, I never did find out which.

Its only a mental picture for me, because at the time I was dealing wth the robbers face to face in the kitchen (threatening me at knifepoint), and she was hiding out the window.

No idea what her punter was doing.
Maybe he was out there with her Laughing
So today (some 18 years later) I just stood at the bus stop and smiled at the memory.

I got all excitamatated when I woke up yesterday morning to discover that Paul Hollywood had liked several of my personal FB posts, after I made some remarks on the Bake-Off FB page, but then I realised it was Paul-Hollywood-without-a-blue-tick, so I blocked the fucker and reported him to the FB polis Laughing

Last month I got "chatted up" on the Fratelli's FB page by someone alleging to be Jon Fratelli but after several passes back and forth in PMs, I knew it wasn't him cos he told me he couldn't give me his email address due to management not allowing them to give it out - but in fact I actually already have it and have also spoken to the real one extensively on the phone (lovely).
( Thinking come to think of it, he did most of the talking, I just listened and said Yes now and then, quite a lot. We might have agreed to go for coffee when he has free time and is in London, but nothing's come of it so far Laughing )

Then there was John "No-Blue-Tick" Travolta on Instagram, telling me he thought I was sweet. I fucking wish! I'd not even kick him out of bed for farting even though he's a weird religion.

Fucking social media fakes, haha: God loves a tryer; hellkat, not so much.

I don't know if it oils my gears but this is a pretty amazing achievement by Elon Musks' space rocket mob.

SpaceX catches Starship rocket booster for first time ever as it returns to Earth after launch

Video in the link is bloody breathtaking.
