Hi

I have a 70cc speedfight that has been running fine. More recently after about 10 miles it's starts to loose power almost like the carb is suddenly starved of fuel. Any idea what might cause this when it's warmed up

Part of me thinks a mixture issue or plug breakdown.

Any ideas welcome

After ten miles? Fuck me, that's a long way for fuel starvation or a coil to break down.

It's only 70cc. It's probably just out of breathe.

Warmed up, be fucked. Its warmed up, done a marathon, had a press conference after the race and is looking forward to an ice bath.

If it was a mixture issue then it would run like shit from the off, not just after 10 miles. Most of the 2-stroke things I've had the misfortune to own ruined spark plugs for fun, though, so that's certainly worth a look.

Can't see a spark plug working for 10 miles at max 30 miles an hour and then stop working and then start working again when cold without some attention.

Typically thats the coil starting to fail and you would be looking at a couple of miles if you were very lucky.

Stock speedfights came in 50/100/125cc flavours
so 70cc means 'owner improvements'
so we know who's to blame for this

Yeah, I (foolishly?) assumed it was running OK as a 70cc when it just broke.

OP - did this behaviour start right after you fitted the big bore kit?

I know what you mean, but I have apparently solved similar problems by replacing the plug. I say apparently because the 2-strokes I owned were invariably old and fucked, and had combinations of all sorts of issues so maybe I just got lucky Very Happy

Hi

The bikes been a 70 for the last 23 years with a fresh build about 2 years ago. It's been fine for quite some time, the plug is a year or two old. I'll try a new plug and coil just because it won't hurt.

Thinking about this it's most likely an overheating issue and it's heat seizing.

As to whats actually causing it to overheat....

I wondered about heat seizing. It's a liquid cooled model but that doesn't mean to say it can't over heat. I'm not sure what could cause her to over heat. Maybe try a colder plug???

If it's liquid colled I'd be looking at the cooling system first.
