Aromatic hydrocarbons are one of the three classes of compounds found in petroleum. They are less abundant than the alkanes and cycloalkanes, amounting to only a few percent of the total, but they are quite important commercially. Most aromatic hydrocarbons contain a benzene ring.

Well, my petrol still smells like petrol so it clearly hasn't lost them despite being 8 months old.

This petrol in the bike's tank or some you had in storage?

In the tank. 8 months old and fired up first time despite all the dire warnings that it would lose it's ethanol or absorb a load of water.

I leave my bikes for years (I have too many, and I like to cycle between them all) with whatever petrol in the tank they had left. I haven't had an issue starting any of them.

Aye.. many folk are keen to regurgitate hearsay. Likewise I haven't yet found year old fuel the nemesis it's painted - I do tend to use teh 5% stuff though so maybe some of thedoom-mongering has worn offf on me.

AFAIK electronic fuel injection systems should be vaguely "ethanol aware" (anything in the last decade I'm guessing) and not as badly affected by water settling out of the fuel. They just "power through it."

Having owned my ZX6R for 20+ years I’ve certainly encountered problems recently with ethanol fuels when laid up, and when I recounted the symptoms to my local bike workshop the fella said “ethanol” without prompting, and he’d seen it often recently too.

My family has had the flu all week, so I have been limited to indoor bike-related activities:

3D printed screw caps for my mirrors
Ordered a number plate with the slogan 'Big bike energy' (to suit my 125 with L plates)

Not the bike, the tyre machine.
Finally had some time to work on the tyre machine. One of the air valves was seized so cleaned and lubed, then discovered the carriage was seized so it wouldn't clamp a wheel.
Stripped out various seized bolts, cleaned some bits and then shocked it back into movement.
Needs various nuts and bolts replacing which I shall order later but otherwise seems ok.

Keep in mind it's a 20+ year old Butler Superbike tyre machine that lives outside. I've owned it for 15 years and it cost me a whole £150. It's paid for itself multiple times, I've done in the region of 150+ tyre changes with it and when it finally fails I will get my money back on it.

<edit>Works again but not at full power, will have to strip further.</edit>

Ordered a new set of tyres, PR6's, and now just need a break in the weather to get the wheels off and get them swapped over.

Honda Forza 750
Scooterish but decently quick and handles ok.

Auto gearbox with manual mode and "flappy paddles"

Today I washed my motorcycle and then went for a ''short'' trip to dry it out properly...

NOTE: Some of the images might seem like late 70's to early 90's film photographs, however that is fully intentional. Thumbs Up

Bought a new-to-me Enfield Interceptor the other week. Thought I'd give it a good little run-in with a trip from Southampton up to York.
Not too bad, better winding round the back roads from Doncaster, but definitely a better trip than the same thing on the old CBF125.

It depends on the storage container, how much of it is present, the temperature of storage, humidity, loads of factors.

I have two cans of Super in my garage, one is about two years old and one is 3 months old. They smell different. They both smell like petrol, but the older one also smells of... well vinegar is the best description.

Tennants Super? Both should be fine.

Super unleaded, E5, 98 RON from the local Texaco.

Internet lore suggests that Texaco use the lowest quantity of ethanol in their E5 but seeing as there are like 2 refineries in the whole of the UK that seems like it might be unlikely. The KR1S does run well on it though!

IIRC, E10 means up to 10% of ethanol, so who knows. Thinking

Yep, exactly, so all those forecasts of doom and vehicles spluttering their end with 6 month old fuel seem to be unfounded.

Well, I guess at some point (high price of crude oil) we'll get very close to the 10% mark and that's when some older machines might have issues, especially those that are not used regularly. Thinking
