That's interesting
125's being the biggest seller is no surprise at all
but would have guessed the the 126-500 range would be the least popular
as I mistakenly thought folk passing tests would go on at least 500's

Forums are dying in general, there are less people passionate about riding as there used to be thanks to how many more hoops there are to jump through to get a license so less young blood in it.

Rest of you old gits only post in not bike related cause;
a) dont ride anymore
b)theres no new bikes out there intesting to talk about
c) do ride but have got sensible scooters/commuters/ never actually 'adventured' adventure bikes so theres nothing to talk about
d) all of the above.

Well I just bought c I guess. Scooterish looking anyway
Because of b - nothing much interesting out there. Mostly a bunch of clones.

I'd have bought a Yam Niken for something different but there was nothing in my area.

I thought 1000cc+ would have been bigger, seems like everyone is buying a 1200cc bike these days.

I'm considering going down from my SV650 to something smaller like a 350 since it got used maybe twice last year now I'm riding mostly off road stuff instead.. I'm actually really temped to get some kind of classic bike like a BSA just to potter around on Laughing

Reddit bike forums are doing well and have lots of activity, new posts and comments every day. Same with Facebook.

Maybe the problem is the people on this forum.

It's quiet enough that I can swing by every six months or so (or when I remember) and not have to trawl too much. Personally I don't have a facebook account and avoid reddit where possible as it's just another timesink, but as others have said forums in general have had their day. I'm reasonably sure that a goodly proportion of modern bike riders don't have the attention span to adapt to somewhere that gets you accurate answers in a matter of days or weeks when they can get a link to a dubiously filmed youtube "how2" in minutes on other sites. They need to fuck up their machinery NOW dammit.

What Virus said resonated with me, the changes to licensing and constant safety agenda has effectively destroyed what I knew as the bike scene and its ancillaries. In the space of a couple of decades it's gone from protests against BHP limits and leg protectors to getting shouted down for daring to ride a scooter without a full suit of track spec protective gear. Bikes are back to being a sensible form of transport or a toy, not so much a lifestyle. There are exceptions of course.

Add in the hard veer this place took toward the frothing right a few years back and it just made the place unpleasant to be. Watching the same usernames argue about the same crap with no debate or rationale really isn't fun. Nor the fads of bullying that came and went. Makes it easy to lose interest and bow out of a community when there's fuck all that you feel is worth engaging with. Not so much a judgement of the posters but the content, or lack thereof.

Having said that, BCF is still a community which is nice to see. I've met some of you and wouldn't hesitate to do so again although I'll be the first to admit I'm unlikely to do so these days. Personally I've met a few fantastic people on here, still speak to a number of them regularly and keep a distant sort of contact with others that doesn't happen often but stands to test of time because we're equally shite at "staying in touch" and don't get offended at a few years between texts, but as a daily hangout? That's not likely for many reasons, some as discussed and others that really don't matter.

I would be sad if BCF dies, People on here that I have met of just communicated with have all been beneficial to my life and enhanced my on line experience. In 2011 I had big surgery and one of the first people I messaged after was Hellcat who spread the word I was not dead. Viva BCF.
