Defended himself by shooting them in their backs as they ran away.

Defended himself by shooting Fred Barras (16) and Brendan Fearon who were experienced criminals who had amassed 62 convictions between them.

Details of what their convictions : bhttps://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/719895.stm

Self-defence is when someone uses necessary, reasonable and proportionate force to defend themselves or another from imminent attack.

His firearms license had been taken away from him for shooting at someone who was stealing apples.

That's not to say that I have any sympathy for the thieves who drove for more than an hour to rob Tony Martin only to get shot instead..

They won t be robbing anyone else will they. Personally I think if you are caught on anyone else's property you deserve everything you get. Especially now when the chances of the police turning up this side of Christmas are nigh on zero (unless you have a golliwog in your window.)
