Hi all - New user and new to Honda CBF600
I'm a bit more used to Guzzi and Enfields but now have a old hack of a CBF600. despite its age and milage I'm very impressed with its poise and power however I'm after a little help please:
I was well surprised at the throttle response - after marking the throttle with tape and twisting it I Seem to have a 1/4 turn throttle - is this normal for that bike or has someone been playing?
When the bikes cold it bogs on acceleration until about 3K - more or less disappears after the bike warms up. before I pull the tank to get to the plugs etc has anyone got any advice regard what it may be?
the combination of the two above situations makes it ....interesting to ride for the first 5 mins
Thanks in advance - Sunny days here so happy ridding all! |

Why are you concerned about the engine behavior when cold under 3krpm? ride it carefully when cold, warm it up and then rev it...
No...
REV IT!
It redlines at 11,000rpm. 3000 is NOT the midrange. The midrange is 5,500 to 6,500.
Warm the bike up, then rev it. |
Seconded. 3k rpm on a 600 inline 4 honda is barely off idle.
When I get on my wifes CBR6 after riding my VFR750, I generally think there's something wrong with it until I realise I should be one or even two gears lower than the one I'm riding in.
A CBF600 doesn't make peak torque until 8,500rpm. At 3,000 it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.
1/4 turn throttle does seem too small though. Have a look at the linkage and see if it's going stop-to-stop. One thing that occurrs is it may have been restricted for an A2 licence at some point. As I recall, they do this by fitting restrictor washers in the inlet rubbers and a throttle stop bracket to prevent you opening it fully. One or both of these might still be there. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Good advice - thanks both, I’m very use to Torquey chuggers, but there’s a definite bogging / misfire right where you need the revs if you’re tickling along in traffic.
Think the tanks coming off next week for a look for throttle stops etc.
