It IS 10% ethanol. Its not 'up to 10% ethanol'

E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, which will help to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with petrol vehicles and tackle climate change. Petrol in the UK currently contains up to 5% renewable ethanol (known as E5).

Up to 10% means somewhere between 9.5-10% ethanol in practice.

At this point who has a 40+ year old bike that still has the original pipes running the fuel system anyway?

I'm not sure about the fuel hose, but the carburettor of my 1987 (registered) XBR is completely original.

I did rebuild the full tap with modern parts though. The previous owner was not so clever about it, as he removed the mesh filter, so every bit of debris and dirt in the tank would everynow and then flow right into the carburettor, resultign in a stuck float valve, leaking the fuel on the ground, even mid ride.

Front pads and new heated grips of the Dullville, normally go for Oxford ones but R&G were considerably cheaper and seem to have good reviews so thought I’d give them a try.

Filed off the burrs on the mirror arm scuffed when the bike toppled over and gave it a cheeky waft of Chassis Black. It won't hold but good enough till I consider replacements. The marks on the side panel also buffed out with only a light waft of a domestic scouring pad so then I had to clean both sides, weather's not really conducive to washing the whole bike.

Given the upcoming storm I've pre-emptively moved the bike as to not catch the wind. Handy when you have a big grab rail on such a light bike - just grab it by the arse and man-handle it about Smile

Hooked up the heated grips for the first time this winter. They're not great but they take the edge off when its 3 or 4 DegC.

The man who has been fixing my Harley for the last century (and who is eternally patient) phoned me to say he is back on the case now that the New Year is in - I suspect he wants to get some of the bikes out of his yard so he can get on with some new stuff - but that he may need to talk to the man who did the Ulez adjustments to see if they can get their heads together and sort out why its not co-operating.

Fortunately, the man who does the Ulez adjustments is well acquainted with me as he fixes my Suzuki and he also has a nice kiwi chap who does Harleys (although he was supposed to be going back to NZ but seems to have not got round to going yet) ... so hopefully they can put their heads together and get it sorted.

Meanwhile I thought I should ask him to let me know what the current sheet was on the Harley - as he hasn't asked me for any money for quite a while, so I should probably start the fresh year by clearing that for him ... Shocked

I suspect he "may be some time" working it out.
Oh dear Laughing

Fitted a Hitchcocks single seat and rear rack to the bullet, also treated it to a set of new mirrors, due to house move I have sold the Bonneville and just have the one bike now.

Like a good little boy I checked my tyre pressures today. The Husky specs are very simple: 29psi both front and back. Checked the back and it was 40psi. "WTF?!" I pondered as I let the air out. The front was 30psi, close enough.

I last checked the tyres just before Christmas and I fill 'em up with a stirrup pump. One does not casually throw in an extra 10psi without knowing about it! I'm at a loss to figure out how it happened Thinking

The new Hitchcock mirrors tested on a ride out today, showed my elbows and nothing else, Original cleaned up and refitted.
Seat works ok and the bike enjoyed a run with some new E5 after a winter lay up. Spring is in the air.

Yes, 500 UCE B5 2015 model. The mirrors I bought were generic and I found the stems too short for the Bullet, perhaps they would be ok on wider handlebar.

I am going to save up my pocket money and buy a set of the black "touring" RE mirrors.

It depends on what you want from your bike, for over 25 years I enjoyed Hinckley Triumphs, about ten years ago I bought a RE Classic 500 as a second bike and thought that it was ok, that was followed by a Himalayan which I thought was a great bike, I really did like it, then an Interceptor which I didn't really like very much and then a Classic 350 which was ok but not very exciting. I bought a 2015 low mileage Bullet about 18 months ago, gave it a good clean up, service and fitted some accessories and now find it ideal. I live in rural Devon and it is just right for the B roads and the small winding lanes. It is not a heavy bike, it is quite zippy and has a lovely thumping single ( with a cat less Hitchcocks exhaust). I you like motorways and exceeding speed limits don't buy one, the build quality is fine, keep it serviced and lubricated and it runs like a sewing machine.

Scraping off powder coat from the pannier rails of my latest acquisition Cool It's bastard stuff and difficult to tell where it's 'blown' and rusty underneath. Where it hasn't its as tough as old boots.
