As per the topic title, how much has your pension been affected by the Trump tariffs ... don't need figures a % will do or just a "shit load".

The last massive falls in pensions were around when Covid hit, I personally lost around 10% of my pot, and very soon after I moved my pension from shares into cash.

Interest is paid every three months, with an initial rate of 2.6%, rising to 3.75% then down to 3.25% currently (over the last few months).

I may not be making as much if it was still in shares, but I'm always gaining and never losing ... which is the main thing for me, don't have a lot and would rather hold on to it!

I know pensions are for the long term and they should recover, but if you're near retirement or have retired then that's doesn't do you much good.

I took my lump sum and the rest transferred to a draw down just after Labour got in because I didn't trust them not to tax it.

Glad I did.

I took my lump sum a few years back, then transferred the remainder to another company as cash, not lost a penny since, with interest paid every 3 months.

I'm going to have every penny of my pension lifted before I hit state pension age (if I make it that long), only paying around £1k in tax for each £10k I lift.

My mortgage will be paid off at the beginning of next year, so I'll only need around £500 a month to keep me going ... the rest of the money I have will go towards double glazing and fitting the boiler I bought about 5 years ago ... been without proper heating heating for well over 10 years, so it'll be nice to toast myself to death if I feel like it Laughing

Genuinely haven't dared look.

If it has plummetted, I'm not going to bale out anyway as the advice is always to hold on and weather the storm, and it will bounce back (just as it did after Covid and the 2008 crash).

On a positive note:
If you are still paying into your pension then you'll be getting ore units for your money so when the market goes up again you'll be on a winner

Mine got absolutely trounced in the 2008 debacle. I suspect it will be the same here.

As an aside my shares have tanked (obviously) but I'll just have to hang on and hope they come about.

I understand that's the normal thing to do and if you still have a long time to go before you hit retirement then it's true, if you're a few months or years away then the likelihood of it bouncing back are somewhat reduced.

I couldn't take that chance, I didn't have a lot to begin with and so that's why I switched mine to cash. I won't lose a penny no matter what the stock markets do, and I'll still earn interest, albeit at a lower rate than if done as shares and the markets were doing good.

At the end of the day it's a hard decision to make, for the long term it's probably best to stay in shares, but short term I think I've gone the right direction, but everyone has different needs Thumbs Up

I was the same and years earlier I was also hit with the Equitable Life failure, again losing money, although I can't remember what % it was.

It seems to be happening more and more, 2008, 2020, 2022 and now 2025, although this time we don't yet know how it's going to turn out.

As usual, it's us at the bottom of the pile who'll probably suffer the most!

No doubt they will drift rather than bounce back up.
But yeah at this age, its not a thrilling occurrence - will it/won't it/what will they do next thing.

Oh look, he's changed his mind on tarriffs again and the markets have jumped massively.

If that orange fucker isn't manipulating the markets for personal gain, I'm a Dutchman. He's not so smart someone wont catch him at it eventually.

Been keeping an eye on it. Most of us have some degree of bond allocation which obviously smoothes it out a bit. Both mine have dropped over 10%

As said above though - he's put a 90 day pause on it (except for China). May've been his plan since day1 to try and stop Chinas economy overtaking them. Or he really is playing fast and loose - while making a buck on the side.

I prefer slow and boring when it comes to finances so hope he stops f*cking around!

If those in the Whitehouse are not making bank, they are just stupid rather than corrupt. His crypto rug pulls may have made a few million but the last couple of weeks could have made them billions with a b knowing when to go short/long.

How can you say that, a rich b'stard manipulating the markets to make even more money, as if they would, morals would stop them from even contemplating it!

It's like buying a couple of skyscrapers hoping they'd be destroyed in separate incidents so that you could claim the insurance twice (or attempt to)!

He's still tariiffing (is that a word?) China, and lets be honest, that's the fight he really wants. Europe and the rest is just a side show.

Edited to add - I presume goods made in China for other companies will still draw China tariffs. So Apple phones, even though it's an American company will get 100+% loading. Will that work the same way for say Yamaha that have bikes built in China. Those bikes will get China tariffs, not Japan tariffs?

Bloody confusing me this is.

In theory do the tariffs turn the UK into a gateway to the USA market for the EU?

Nah - they'll setup an EU/UK front company to dodge the silly tariffs.

Thats why those penguins got tariff'd - some countries were selling as if they were from there.

I still cannot understand why the markets rebounded yesterday, at no time did the shithead say that he was rescinding tariffs on China, Canada or Mexico, aluminium or steel.
My faith in the money grabbers was restored today when the markets resumed their dive. Neutral

I never cease to be amazed by the sheer lack of education displayed by other old scrotes my age - yesterday I was chatting to a young Russian American and a chap named Romanov (white American), when the Russian said that it was good that his (Romanov) company was doing well, I quipped that it had to be fairing better than his namesake, Nicholas.
The Russian knew exactly who I was talking about but fuck me if a joke quickly loses its punch when you have to explain what a Tsar was to a bloke named Romanov. Rolling Eyes

There's a TikTok trope of interviewing random people on the street, usually youngsters, and asking seemingly basic questions which they fluff horrendously...

So is this insular idiocy endemic across the entire population? Is America a world power despite or because of such ignorance?

My pension doesn't seem to have dropped much but I've made some decent money from my shares.
Sold off all my BP shares and re-bought at 90p lower in price. My US Monthly payers are mostly down but the dividend is very high and I don't have much money in them so not really bothered.
Overall I'm running a healthy 12.2% return in the shares account at the moment and its an ISA shared with a cash account on 4.5% interest rising to 4.6% at the end of month so nothing too stressful.

The percentage return jumps up and down depending on share price.

I have a stocks and shares ISA I manage through an app so when the end of the world was night I maxed it out, and made £8000 next day before 11am.
But I lost £6000 the day before - on paper.
It's back where it was - for now.
