Hello BCF,

I'm stuck...

GSXR1000 K3 has randomly developed a fault of not being able to exceed 5-6k RPM in any gear.

My first steps were:

- Replace plugs
- Oil and filter change
- Air filter change

Made no difference.

I then thought that it maybe the fuel pump.

So I bought a third party pump and fitted it to the fuel pump assembly but it's now tripping the fuel pump fuse.

I've likely installed the replacement pump incorrectly so it maybe worth retrying that..

My thinking is it's likely the fuel pump because nothing changed.. but not 100% sure on that.

Not sure where to go now, other than maybe buying the entire fuel pump assembly off ebay and trying that.

Any advice much appreciated

Hi , I'd be looking at the carbs myself. If there anything like the ones on the bandit they probably need a clean out.

Is there a gauze strainer on the fuel pump? Did you change that too?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Sounds like the exhaust valve is seized closed....

Had this on my Exup 1000

Did you think about connecting a diagnostic scanner to verify operating inputs/outputs? Could be as simple as TPS lost calibration. Probably better to unobtrusively and electronically probe the ECM before tearing stuff apart. in my opinion. Wink

Thanks all.

Sorted out the new fuel pump, took it for a test ride and the problem remains.

Ordered a new TPS sensor.. giving this a try next since it’s relatively cheap.

I should really be testing things before blindly replacing them…

Will give this a try next and see how it goes.

Noted on the exhaust valve, will check. Think it’s been fully removed by a previous owner but will have a look.

Since you're probably going to have to calibrate the new TPS when you install it, maybe you can play around with your old one first. With luck you can recalibrate the old TPS. Then you can send the new one back. https://www.gixxer.com/threads/throttle-position-sensor-tps-adjustment.291520/

I'm pretty sure that last time a similar problem came up, I confidently suggested ignition trouble because it was a hard ceiling of 5-6k rpm in every gear, and the problem was the exhaust valve.

Those exhaust valves must really close up tight.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think one of the previously owners has disabled it, can’t see any control cables going to it. Presumably it shouldn’t be that if it’s disconnected(?)

Thanks for suggestion on TPS, adjusted it but same problem occurring.

Could the fuel pressure regulator be at fault? Suppose I need to pressure test the fuel line to determine that?

On second thoughts, I THINK you’re spot on with this.

Just removed the end can and put something down the pipe (ooer), resistance! The valve is closed.

So I’ve removed the spring but there isn’t any guarantee the valve will hold on the position I want it to, will likely just buy a new link pipe for it.

My assumption is that a previous owner has held it in place with something (can’t check because the link pipe won’t come off, need an angle grinder on it - so rusty) and at some point it’s broken - now the valve remains in closed position with nothing to open it.

Thanks for the heads up on this one.

I will reply back if it’s fixed for definite, just incase any one stumbles on this thread in the future
