Been debt and mortgage-free since 2020 but would rather have my health and freedom.

Got kids? If not get out now.

Have to agree with A100man here. Your 39 now. Can you imagine that life for the next 25+ years?.

My first wifes family were like that, more to her than me. I found out they used to ask her for money (my money as she didn't work) and she'd oblige. When I stopped her giving them money they started demanding it off me. They were Jewish. I only say that because they said it was my duty to help out the poorer members of the family. It put a big rift between me and the wife and I lasted another year then just walked away. Thankfully no kids involved.

Snap, threw myself into work accepting every opportunity for overtime, not for the money (too much and it'd be gouged out of me) but just to keep away from it all, I suffered a pretty severe industrial accident in some small part through insane hours coupled with poor mental health.

Financial freedom & security is worth nothing for physical/mental well being is all I feel I can say, leaving those situations isn't always as simple as just 'getting out' I know from experience.

Probably the last 15 years, weirdly enough.
I've certainly had an entertaining life, what with this and that.

But ... I've become much less needy about pleasing people. These days I give much less of a fuck what people think.
I unwittingly used to let a lot of people treat me like a doormat.
Not so much nowadays.

I'm the kind of open-hearted person that has a lot of affection to offer - but currently there's nobody suitable to lavish it upon. Meh.

If I could just reverse the aging process (*everything hurts/doesn't work that well any more*) then all would be hunky dory, cos I am not liking being so easily-exhausted.
Although it is kind of fun to have an actual excuse to lie on the sofa in the afternoon and just sleep or read a book Laughing

Tatters, get out while you can, babe.
Bring your wife, if she wants.

If she doesn't, cut your losses and come home.

We always (as humans/people) want the opposite of the good things we've got don't we as we're never satisfied with anything and we don't appreciate the simple (important) things in our lives when the boredom of having them kicks in...

Id say the 3 months before covid when I was living rent free on a small carribean island with my only responsibility being walk the dogs was pretty damn good. Spent the rest of the time either scuba diving or drinking a shit ton of high abv rum.

I'm quite happy with my lot, ill heallth and all, it could be worse is the way I look at it.

But I do agree with you in that the majority always want more, they want the new shiny thing because their neighbour ot friend got it, they want to be better than others.

I'm happy for others when they are successful, especially when it doesn't change them and they are still good, down to earth people!
