I always love the people who talk about surviving nuclear war, they seem to think that they'll be able to come across clean water and food just like that, fuel for vehicles no problem (but no Nectar points), weapons and ammo easy peasy, they just cannot see how deluded they are Rolling Eyes

Afterwards all of the land and water will be radioactive so getting water and growing food will likely be impossible or inadvisable, and as for scavenging supermarkets, what you and every other survivor out there, you'd be lucky if it lasts for a few days or a week at most.

If we were warned about an incoming nuclear attack then the smart ones would be heading towards the blasts ... I'm more than happy to be vapourised if it ever happens, icing on cake would be to have a nice ciggie and/or joint just before it happens (nearly 4 years since I've had either) Thumbs Up

Good call. That's only about 40 miles from where I live now. I might come and visit the area if I stay in UK. I'll be floating around near the edge of the reservoirs during the daytimes if you want some company and a chat Wink Thumbs Up

I'm further down south between Cardiff and Brizzle so I might get taken out in the first wave. No problems then. To the void I return.

I wouldn't want to survive either and live through the impending nuclear winter that followed with all that radiation, and I'm by no means a doomsday prepper getting ready to live underground for 1 to 2 decades in a specially designed bunker, but I prefer (for my own sanity) to approach the subject in a lighthearted manner to soften the blow of what the actual reality of surviving would be like. Trust me, I do know. I'm not stupid mate Wink

It's a fair point that but those bombs were about 80 years ago so the country has had a long time to recover now. The damage and knock-on-effects in the short to medium term soon after a nuclear explosion would be devastating and very hard to deal with if you survived and stayed in that area/country. The only 2 options available would be to prepare to live underground in advance or leave the country before the bombs dropped. My choice would be the latter...

Hmmmm, estimated yields of 13-18 kilotonnes for Little Boy and 19-23 kilotonnes for Fat Man ... modern thermonuclear weapons are more prolific and have an ever so slightly higher yield, some in the megatonnes range ... but yeah, can't argue that the Japanese managed okay Laughing

Well would you look at that!
Turns out I'm likely to head down that way at some point in the v.near future after all Laughing

I expect I shall return once all the baby hoo-hah is over, and continue in my v.earnest efforts to save the NHS until I claim my state pension.

Then I expect I shall spend it all on flights back and forth to Sydney during the English winters so that I don't have to worry about freezing to death with no Cold Weather Payments Laughing

Thinking Maybe the bombs will fall while I am over there and I will be "stuck" down there ... Dance!

Wouldn’t do anything except stay exactly where I live now…a militarily strategic island in the Eastern Mediterranean. Nukes unlikely here although there are other nearby “threats”.

Sunshine, cold beer, souvlaki. Bring on the apocalypse I say Cool

Which one?
The Australian one or the NZ one?
(No for both, however)

If there is a golfing option, my stepmother might have been there.
She is a bit of a golf nut, bless. Wub

So close to the source of the problem that nobody would nuke it for fear of fall-out reaching them Laughing
Good point, madam.

Personally I'll be living far from the thankless urban sprawl, hidden in the hills hunting and fishing, bow, knife and spear, and occasionally painting myself with mud to go slithering into the dark pockets of crumbling urbanity under cover of darkness as they slumber to prey upon the weak and find edible sustenance (long pig a delicacy) and leaving my "mark", perhaps a head on a spike somewhere, so that when day breaks the villagers will know that He That Can Not Be Named has visited them, and may do so again, thus instilling a sense of fear and panic among the feeble ones still clinging to their shell of normality. And when I tire of reigning unnecessary terror upon them I shall simply hunt them for sport and make useful items from their bones and hides.
