I've been watching a few videos lately on vehicles that get towed away but one thing that always puzzles me is how is the owner supposed to know where the vehicle has been taken to or even the name of the company who took the vehicle away? This question mainly relates to parking in private car parks, parking in residential areas, and parking on public roads. What would you do (for example) if you parked your car safely somewhere for the day or even a few weeks while you went on holiday but someone reported it while you were gone and had it towed away?

On public roads when a car is towed the information is put into a database so if you ask the Police where it is they can check to see if it's actually missing/stolen or has been towed to a pound. I think it's called TRACE.

Good info that. Never heard of it before. Just googled it but apparently that's just for London though Sad

It's not going to be lawfully towed by the landowner from private carparks or residential areas.

If you leave it parked somewhere on a street that has parking restrictions then the council can tow it. If it's untaxed then the DVLA can tow it and if it's uninsured then the police or the local council can have it towed. If you're parked in a way that causes a hazard then then again the police or the council can take it, same deal if you're causing an obstruction.

You find out where it's gone by phoning 101 and telling them your car has been stolen. Laughing

Get a proper hard wired tracker as I believe Air Tags announce themselves to anyone with an Iphone nearby after a period of time in order to be less of a stalker tool.

Putting aside the towing agenda...I've actually been thinking about a fitted tracker system lately. Found one that's monitored 24/7 by an operator and if the vehicle moves without use of the key/correct disarming of the alarm the operator does all the liaising with the Police to follow and recover the vehicle.

£15.99 per month seems reasonable to me for that peace of mind "if" my car got stolen/moved.
