hi everyone,

how feasible it is to do the 4-5 days commute from woking to london please ?

planning to do cbt and get 125 .. then work towards full licence ..
but looking at someone who has done this or doing this ..
trains are way expensive and trying to cut a bit of cost here ..

thanks

Same Question as 6 years ago but different direction? I'm assuming you didn't opt for bike on the S'ton commute and I can't say I blame you.

Blackfriars will be a hour of tense misery each way I'd say. Perhaps a few times in the summer hols with less traffic and kinder conditions mighth be OK but for me it'd be the train and damn the expense. Marjay commutes so is better experienced than I - see what he says.

I mean it's a simple enough route and most of the miles would be on the A3 however if you're leaving Woking at 8am it will be more of a headache than if you leave at 5am.

Do you have experience driving? Do you have experience cycling on roads with traffic?

There's many factors for how feasible it is or isn't. At this point I'd say do your CBT and see how you get on. The sooner you can do the training and get your full license, the better.

yes move a bit closer now and due to covid it was flexible working but with increasing train fares and full 5 days in office... looking at this option again..
Thanks .. it is around 35 miles but maps shows 1.5 hrs during peak time
Waiting for Marjay

For leaving at 8am it says "typically 1 hr 20 min to 2 hr 40 min" whilst leaving at 5am is "typically 55 min to 1 hr 25 min".

I go up the A3 into the City from time to time but usually random times when the traffic's not so heavy. It's an easy run till you hit Wandsworth.

Whereabouts in London do you need to end up?

Blackfriars bridge is a piece of cake on a bike now as you can use the bus lane where the cars can't. Only got to fight the last 50-100yds where they can filter in. I;ve been working just North of the bridge several months this year.

Its an easy enough ride but I'd be damned if I'd tackle the A3 every day on a 125. Not long after you hit the A24 it'll be 20 limit anyway.

125 is to try initially then idea is to go for full license.

I used to do some work around London Bridge so not a massively different route. Basically head up the A3 and once you hit Wandsworth you can either go past Battersea Park or Clapham Common. I usually go with the former going up and the latter coming back, personal taste really.

Once you hit the Elephant it's straight up to Blackfriars, easy-peasy, and you can take "diabolical liberties" with the last 500 yards you can't do with a car Laughing It's the sort of run you can make incrementally more efficient the more you do it. Would I fancy doing it daily? No, but needs must when the Devil drives (or rides!)

A 125 is perfectly adequate but the three lane bit of the A3 - NSL - will be boring. Something like the 350 Royal Enfields would be a bare minimum. How's the parking at the other end? People do like stealing 125s so I'd get onto something bigger and less desirable ASAP.

Loads of free motorbike parking near Blackfriars Station. There's bike bays on the road all around and free parking at Baynard's House car park.
