Looked at a Diavel at the weekend, again ..... i'm running out of time and reasons not to.

Today I did service the new Pan

New oil, oil, air and fuel filters and replaced the front two spark plugs.

Couldn't be arsed to take the extra plastics off to get at the rear two as it was getting late (getting the belly pan back on was a pain in the ar*e job) so I'll do those next week and balance the carbs.

The air filter had "fitted july 09 2013" on it!
It was pretty clean though.

Took the GT for its MoT today. I can't work out how, but now the thing starts reliably from cold all the time. Usually it's the other way round: leave a bike sitting and it cries for a can of EZ-Start Anyhoo, it passed without even an advisory for "loud exhaust". I must be getting old

In the continuing tale of "fixing other people's sh*t" the lad next door has got himself a Zontes 125. It looks worn but in surprisingly good condition for 12k miles. Gave me an excuse to clear some crap from my shed so I gave him an old bike cover and security chain.

His mate was complaining about a problem with the rear brake on his bike, a Yamaha 125. Pads looked good but then I noticed the paint had all dissolved from everything under the master cylinder. "Here's your problem: no brake fluid." Oh and the front USD fork was leaking, and ofc it has to be on the side with the brake

So after leaving the bike's battery connected to a solar trickle charger for a considerable amount of time, it didn't have the power to crank. I always checked the operation of the charger every month or so and found it to be ok.
Now I'm wondering if the battery needed to be disconnected in order for the charger to work effectively.
I removed the battery and put it on a mains charger. While it was charging I fitted the previous battery which I'd periodically topped up with the solar charger and it started the bike fine.

Moved on the GT250 (1976) and replace with a 'modern' SRX 250 (1990). A runner but lots of cosmetic jobs and forks to sort out .

Finally found the little bastard nail/pin or whatever it was that was in my rear tyre. Been losing pressure for the last few weeks, around 4-5psi over a couple of days and infuriatingly could never seem to find anything despite seemingly checking everywhere, including all round the rim and changing the valve core.

I'd assumed spraying it with some soapy water I'd spot it a mile off as it seemed to be losing a fair bit, but no. I've spent the last hour going through every little nick on the tyre and finally found the bugger, or what was left of it. Dug out what I could, reamed it to within an inch of it's life and plugged it so hopefully sorted now.

I think I figured out the front tyre on the GT randomly losing some air. Some clever soul on here suggested it might be the valve rather than a tube leak. Bought a valve + extractor kit and that seems to have sorted it

Replaced all the seals on the Old Fella's Harley leaking front fork. We did the dust seal previously (unsurprisingly didn't fix the issue) and now we done dust seal plus the main one underneath. Someone lent us one of those circular hammer things for tapping seals back in and that definitely saved some time.

Fitted some DB killers to the straight through exhausts on the American tractor. I don't mind loud pipes but when I can't hear the stereo it's too loud.

I haven't run it yet so will see if it makes any difference tomorrow. And if it affects the performance at all, but I doubt that.

I put those in for the MOT on mine - hate them. They make it sound strangled and it definitely feels less sharp. Might be placebo, no DYNO output to check but they are back in the MOT drawer where they belong.

Working on the GT, every tool I picked up - be it hex key, spanner, socket - was the correct size. Everything went to plan bar dropping a Woodruff key in some oil and having to fish it out with a magnetic.

A blessed day.

The old fella, on the other hand, was tasked with running some carbs through the ultrasonic cleaner. Fuck know what he did with the water/cleaning mix but everything came out black
