Fuel Protest Plans

An article I spotted in The Times today:

"During any future protest, retailers will be ordered to set a minimum purchase of £35-£40 so that only vehicles with almost empty tanks attempt to buy fuel".

Excellent. You'd think it would occur to them that not everyone can get £40 of fuel in their tank. You can't even get £35 in a lot of cars. The only way to get the fuel in would be to rise the price of it!

I guess this will be helped with the tax on fuel going up as of 1/9/04 as detailed in this years budget.

Government must be loving this high price fuel. They get tonnes of extra dosh for the tax. Then they get extra corporation tax for the north sea oil prices.

I can only get about £15 worth in the mini, even with two tanks I wouldn't be able to buy enough!

If the government take the tax off of the fuel, the oil companies will just hike the price up to keep it at the current levels, so the government may as well just keep it the way it is and get loads of money. However if the tax wasn't so bloody high in the first place we wouldn't be in this situation, mabey

Well, petrol is cheaper just about everywhere else in the world, so although the oil companies margins might go up (the pre tax price of petrol in the UK is one of the lowest in the world, just like the pre tax car prices are a lot lower in high tax countries), it would not go up anything like as much as the amount the tax dropped by.

My dad is a manager at a chemical plant in Castleford Leeds and they use quite a lot of industrial diesel which is taxed very little. You wouldn't believe the prices they pay and the government is still making a profit from it. I'm sure it is no more than 10p per litre.

Yes, red diesel, farmers and people who don't use vehicles on the road use it, like tractors.

During the last fuel protest they were talking about allowing cars and lorrys to use it so they weren't affected by the lack of fuel at the petrol pumps, but it never happened and the protest ended.

You can use it in your car, but it stains the engine red and if they find out you've been using it, you'll be in very deep shit!

Obviously this only applys to diesel cars, before you start.

In the USA they make it green - I was looking into it a while back, you can distil the green colouring of of the diesel. A little gang in minneapolis were doing it, and selling the green dye (highly toxic btw) back to the manufacturers.

During the last fuel protest/shortage in 2000 I managed to get petrol to put in my VW Beetle by wearing my veterinary nurse uniform to the petrol station.

Nurses and other 'key workers' were able to get the petrol while others were turned away from our local garage.

The cashier didn't say anything, I would just pull up wearing the uniform and put the nozzle in the tank & wait for the petrol to start flowing.

This wheeze nearly came to and end when my Dad insisted on me driving his new Jaguar XJ Sport down to be filled up.

This did back fire a tad, 'cos my Dad then comandeered my Beetle to get around!
It was worth it though, to see him struggle to get a set of golf clubs in the back & then driving off squashed into a clapped out orange bug!

Im hoping that they go ahead with it, finally british people standing up to the government, tax rises on fuel just wouldnt be tollerated in america or france or anywhere! we're getting the rough end of the stick as per usual.
They should ship out these benefit scrounging immigrants, & get chav girls neuted if they're short on cash!

im glad I live in the US. fuel is only 2.09 a gallon and that is eat coast VA prices

im still a happy man with this price. and SD cali is around 2.35

I know europe has horrable gas prices. I dont understand why there so high there. its the same damn gas.

87 regular, 90 mid grade, and 93 premium. and you can get 110 octane at stations around the tracks here.

most UK cars should be tuned differently I beleive aswell. for emissions. but I could be wrong.

but that still shouldnt justify the price hike you guys take.
