As the title says!

Should be picking up the paint tomorrow and with a bit of luck have it done by the end of the weekend.

Have the sticker kit waiting, going to be done in the Telefonica Movistar colours (last years).

Anyway.... pics as of last weekend.....

Is that an OE NSR fairing, or a replacement one you're painting up?

How are you painting it, and what paint you using?

I'm seriously considering repainting the thunderace, as there are quite a few minor scratches and cracks on the fairing needing fixing, and it would be as easy to respray the whole thing, as just the affected panels (also means I don't have to worry about colour matching as much)

I was thinking along the lines of the following steps...

remove panels
remove all stickers
clean like buggery
make any repairs so it's nice and smooth and crack free
sand lightly
use plastic primer (which I saw in halfords)
(or regular primer for the tank)
I can't afford proper kit, so woud prolly have to make do with cans...
I'm thinking metallic black, but would cans give a good enough finish.

affix custom graphics (die cut vinyl)
laquer over (what sort of laquer tho, so it doesn't affect the gfx?)

any suggesttions as to this approach to paintint fairing plastics?

You pretty much got it spot on. Its the OE fairing, apart from the seat unit which is a GP seat from Tyga.

The Primers I've used on all the plastics is the Halfords plastic filler primer, gets rid of all the little blemishes. And normal filler primer on the tank. The stickers were a right pain to get off!!

You need to use a real fine grit wet and dry between coats, with lots of water. Ive also got some wipes to use between coats, to get rid of the dust and crap etc...

I'll be using a compressor and air gun for the paint and laquer, but decided to just use the cans for the primer.

Don't think you'll have a problem with cans. A mate resprayed his 1967 Buick Skylark with 126 aerosol cans to show quality. Cool

as a general rule you will get a good finish everytime as long as you have done all the preperation. You could have the best paint gun in the world but if you havent done the prep properly you will get a crap finish. The more time you spend prepping the better the finish will be.

Am going to do likewise with my GSX600F. Thinking (like you) to use cans. Feeling much happier about it now I've seen your results Laughing Thumbs Up

Its not finished yet, its still just in primer.

The pics of the fairing on the bike (in red, white, black etc..) is what is looked like BEFORE I started.

I'll get some good hi-res pics up of it this weekend once the paint is on.

You'll use alot of cans. I think I've used around 15 can of primer so far.

Going to use about 1 litre of paint when I use the gun.

I did realise both of those facts. But changing the colours doesn't make any difference to the shapes of your seat unit and exhaust pipes.

What colours are you planning?
