Ok, Today I sorted out the overheating problem and put fresh coolant though the whole system, Cleaned out the thermostat and it runs fine now, no more air in the system.

While I had the bike apart, I noticed smoke comming from this.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/binge/Resistor003.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/binge/Resistor002.jpg

Now come to think of it, I did smell burning when riding it home yesterday, so i stoped to let it cool down. I just put it down to the lack of coolant in the radiator. But that was fine. Confused

So ive looked through my Haynes manual and it turns out this "Thing" is a resistor linking the "OFF" wire on the headlight to the frame.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/binge/Resistor007.jpg

I disconnected it and took it off. Earthed the wire what came to the resistor to the frame and started it up. All the electrics work and the engine starts fine. (Thats without the resistor). And it didnt smoke or get hot.

Now im not risking not having it on there as it wouldnt be there if its not needed.

So any ideas on what this actually does, how much they cost, Wheather I would have to order one from Peugeot or could I pick one up at a local bike shop. And how can I fix it. Is it the resistor, or a problem with my electrics?

Thanks...

I'm not sure wot it duz but....
A resistor limts current so connecting the wire to ground might smike something else like the alternator.

I reckon you need to speak to the dealer to see wot itz connected to. It won't burnout for no reason and something else down the wire could also be stuffed.

If it runs without the wire to ground that would be safer till you get a spare.

Hey, I've just had a thought.
If your lights run directly off the alternator, then the resistor may put a load on the alternator while the lights are OFF. I think the alternator voltage will be quite high with no load and could make the headlamp pop as its switched on.
Just an idea for you.

Its just really annoying.
Ok, its old for a scooter. The average life span on a speedfight is somthing like 3 years. Mine is comming up to 7 year old!

But since the day I got it, Its been one problem after another, And its just Pissing me off now!
Ill get this fixed, then it will be somthing else what blows or burns out! Mad

Needs selling! Evil or Very Mad

I might just break it on ebay.

Sounds like you don't need ebay to break it. Mr. Green Mr. Green

well when i had a electric problem i took that out and it is for the lights, but they're not actually made by peugeot, i took it into the local shop and said it was off a speedfight and he said it's definitely made by honda he even showed me 1 with honda wrote on it, anyway theyre about 20-30quid i think he said but his prices are a bit over the top

They should be common enough to get the from a breakers for not too much money..

At the same time if theres a short replaceing it could just cook it again...

It WILL work without out one but not for very long, the resistor needs to stay in the system or bad things will happen...

7 years is a long time for a scooter to live, i'd say average life expectancy is a year normaly Razz

Just measure the resistance across it and bodge another resistor between the wire and the frame, job done for about 10p.

I could try that. Thumbs Up

My guess is the same as MalcolmT.

I think That when the lights are on, Its not in use (Or is in Very little use) because the bulb is buring off the current comming from the alternator. But when the bulb is off, I persume that power has to go somwhere, So it goes to the frame. There are 5 wires going to the Light switch. If you connect a battery to the light switch and have it switched OFF. The battery WILL go flat. So there must be another Circuit when the switch is off to ground the direct current from the alternator.

Also, the Resistor only gets hot when the Bulb is off. When the head light is on, The resistor stays cold.

Would it be ok just not turning the Head lights off?
