Ok, I was asking about the oil filter as I have only just thought of it like a twat, and I don’t have a clue if the owner before me changed it. I spoke to a bike guy at work and he said I might as well get a service for the bike.
Um, what do they do in a service usually and how much am I going to be looking at for the basic look over??

Any info appreciated

Check the plugs, and clean/replace them if necessary
Check the valve clearances, rectify them if necessary.
Check the carbs are balanced
Change oil and filter.
Check for play in Wheel bearing etc, replace any that are knackered.
Chck the break pads, and replace the brake fluid.

You could find this out with a quick google. I have a sheet with a full list of what the services entail for my bike, but I can't be bothered to go and read it. You seem to be obsessed with asking all these stupid questions lately Killa... You forgotten that this is an Internet forum? Rolling Eyes

You need to buy the Haynes manual for your bike.

It will list what should be checked at each service, as there are major and minor services at different mileages.

Price depends where you take it, and what they find.

Yeah, sorry, might be stupid to you but to me its just how I am, I just like asking and checking things 20 times over before doing anything.
I am after all a complete novice, with little finds to throw at the bike and even less time to do something myself.
I haven’t got decent tools, no stand, no nothing.

The point is that at least half the questions you ask could be answered by a quick google search. Then if you were still unsure you ask.

You don't seem to want to go to the slightest effort yourself. What next, you're gonna take a crap and want someone to ride over and wipe your arse for you? Rolling Eyes

don,t bother unless the valves are getting noisey (very differcult to do the clearances on a VFR)

and theres no point blancing the carbs unless the bike is running like shit.

Unless it's got shims - then you check them if it's quiet Wink

I like the opinions of random bikers rather than garages? I dunno, i ask on here cuz i read 'Workshop'.
If i type into google, "average price and work on NC30 in my area taking into account i have done some of the work myself"

I'd get babble and you know it, it's not effort doing it, its pointless.
Granted i can get a list of shit to do, but some of it i am not able to do myself so why read about it.
My answer has been answered in here, so i dont see the problem.
