My bike blew up at 90mph!

Mt TL1000R blew it's engine yesterday at an island (without me realising) and then when I got up to 90mph was completely out of oil, which siezed the engine, scaring me to death. I thought I was going to crash!

Sems to be an old injury from a year ago. A low-side induced an internal crack in the bottom of the engine, due to it hitting the kerb, and it wasn't visible when checked in the work shop. The tremendous pressure put on the casing by the engine caused it to split and dump it's oil!

not good for me, especially not good for the drivers behind me, a massive cloud of oil went out behind me and blanketed the A38 near Mansfield, Nott's.

This is gunna take ages to save up for getting fixed! d'oh!

Bummer! High speed engine seizures on 4-strokes are scary. No warning, just a horrible noise and your back wheel is locked.

At least 2-strokes warn you they are about to do it.

The only reason the TL has popped the engine is because I must have wacked it into a kerb when I crashed last year!
They are absolutly fine, I wouldn't let it put you off, hasn't put me off!

My RGV didn't actually seize, but made a high-pitched whine when I overtook a car before I noticed a big lack of power and a rattling noise caused by bits of piston in the expansion chamber.

Ive heard of 2strokes that have run quicker as the mixture goes too lean for whatever reason, at when your flat out on a highly tuned stroker that gets too hot, it can give you no warning whatsoever! a performance 2stroke will not tolerate more than a few seconds of very lean running, or detonation under full load before it goes bang. If its detonation you might just hole the piston, and lose all power, but it could lock the back wheel up so fast when your riding flat out, that before you know it your sliding along the road! In the 70's there were many GP riders injured and even killed by their 2stroke race bikes suddenly seizing up at high speed. If you get any warning that your bikes about to seize then your lucky!

When my sachs seized today it was running fine it jsut went as I was overtaking a car it wasn't in the redline either. Luckily the clutch was covered.
