I've had my m600 for about 3 days now. Already I want the exhausts to unlock that famous ducati sound, heres how I did it...

Step one- What we want to do

First off theres a great big pipe nicely designed and a crappy little pipe restriciting it. We want to remove this annoying pipe. Below shows the pipe that we want to remove and one still in the exhaust...
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/2705/crappypipe3sm.th.jpg

Step two- Exhaust removal

Right to remove the exhaust simply use a 4mm allen key and a 10mm socket/spanner on the exhaust hanger. Once this is off just pull the exhaust can back, you know have a ducati exhaust in your hands, if not something has gone wrong and your stupid.

https://img70.echo.cx/img70/1899/exhaustremoval1fn.th.jpg

Step Three- Taking the exhausts apart

A list of whats needed... work bence, hacksaw (saw for metal), 13mm socket/spanner, rubber hammer/mallet and a soft cloth or bubble wrap.

Right, get your work bence clamp the exhaust or just hold it making sure your using your soft material around the exhaust to stop scratchs! Now you should see two 13mm bolts attaching the hanger, undo these and keep them safe.

Get your rubber hammer and hit the end of can at these points a few times to lossen it...

Don't do it on the bike like my pictures show, im just showing you where to hit!
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/6634/here1af.th.jpg

Might want to use a nice chisel for this hitting point...
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/5671/andhere7gs.th.jpg

Right you've hit these points a few times to lossen it up. Now take your exhaust have the downpipe facing downwards to your workbench and wack it up and down intill the exhaust cover moves down, if it really doesn't move go back to hitting those spots abit more.

Found of pictures of some American guy trying to do it, this part really reminds me of rolling back the skin on my d*ck...

Step four- Cutting time

Your exhaust should look like this but without me trying to find a decent hitting rod.
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/4579/likethis5ux.th.jpg

Grab your hacksaw and cut where you see where I have all the way through, this is alot of hard work, im 17 and in the TA Infantry, even I had to stop for a drink of cold orange juice! You may find it easier to cut all the way through or make your way round by turning the exhaust around. Do how you prefer, remember to use your bubble wrap/soft cloth and the workbench!

After numbing hand work you should be looking at this...

https://img70.echo.cx/img70/2453/shouldlookthisafterhacksaw4wi.th.jpg
Step five- Wacking time

Get the end cap, find a decent peice of metal to hit with, something like a metal rod will be perfect.

Start hitting all around the pipe, theres one weld spot at the lower point of the end cap, so hit really hard there or find something to wedge down into the gap to break it (fine nail, small chisel etc).

https://img70.echo.cx/img70/4507/wack4pc.th.jpg

You can see the weld point cleary once off...
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/2463/weldpoint7ay.th.jpg
https://img70.echo.cx/img70/9717/weldpointagain3qe.th.jpg

The first one I did came out easy, the second end cap was a right pain in the arse and took lots of bashing, I found that if you bash it on the right side then the left over again it broke the weld, then hit everywhere.

Step six- Putting back together

I personally removed the baffles and would recommend it too! Just get some pilers and start yanking the wirey stuff out. If you want smooth off the the rough bits that you cut earlier. Slide the exhaust cover back, line up the holes (coper grease them for ease next time) and bolt the hangers back on. Now you should have something like the picture below, I choose to gasket gunge the gap as shown in the pictures, if theres massive gaps use abit of that baffle you pulled out earlier to fill it in then gasket gunge it.

https://img247.echo.cx/img247/7076/gaskettime4ug.th.jpg

Now take the end cap, clean it all up and smooth where you cut earlier. You now have two options, you can either gasket gunge it and hit back on with a rubber hammer or use a rivot gun and a drill (will show a guide of this but havn't done it yet as deciding whether to do more gutting out).

After all this your exhaust will look like from this...

To this..

No baffling and no absorptive wadding? That's just asking Mr. Plod to ask you to leave the carriageway. Laughing

Hmmm, have you rejetted it then?

Cos it would have surely upset the carburation, oh and how do you expect to pass an MOT now that your standard exhausts are mullered?

Don't think I will need to re-jet. It's hard to tell I've changed the exhausts, my zzr250 was much louder and passed it's mot straight away.
