Try drink driving, that usually gets you banned for more than a year. Have seen up to 3 years

Thought it was 6 points within the first 6 months of having your full licence too?

12 points on the provisional.

6 points in the first two years of your full license for your first entitlement*.

12 points after that.

* ie. if you get your car licence first then add bike a few years later, the two year thing doesn't apply to the bike entitlement.

Just did and can find nothing about a 6 point limit for a learner.

DVLA Site

Hi

Pass your test with (say) 7 points on you licence and you are OK, but if you get any more at all then you will loose your licence.

All the best

I shouldn't worry about how many it is. I should stick to trying to keep it totally clean, no matter what sort it is! Rolling Eyes Wink

Provisional - 12 points
First full licence for two years - 6 points. Any points gained which give a total of 6 or more during this period will be a ban (as Keith pointed out)
After two years - 12 points

Nice to know we have a well thought-out driving system in this country Laughing

Obviously I agree that it makes total sense that learner drivers can get more points than drivers who have passed their test. It probably helps fight terrorism and defeat identy theft, in some spurious and causally linked way, just like the war on Iraq and ID cards. Wink

It also means you have to reapply for your provisional, take your CBT , theory and practical again.

I think you just have to pass both a theory and practical test again. You shouldn't need to do CBT again.
