Nsr 125r Start Button help!

Had u guys saved as favorites before I even got the bike.... had it deliverd! from a guy from essex, won it on ebay last week.. R reg nsr 125 r

got the , it seems to be restricted,, but before I can do any of that, the start button has stopped working! it did work fine!

There is a clicking noise coming from under the seat.
I haven't looked much further coz I assume its a servo or a relay that has gone.. ??
plenty of juice in the Batt checked that first..

If its fixable I will have a go at dooing it , but if I need a new part, I will have 2 wait till payday!!!

Everything else seems fine apart from it being near impossible to find neutral when the engine is running! and not an impressive amount of top end power probably coz of the restrictors.

hope somebody can shed some light on my plight! coz bump starting a nice lookin bike makes me feel Stu hoo hoo pid!
cheers.

oh mate sounds like your starter motor has gone. What happens when you try to bump it? does the back wheel just lock up?

what i suggest is :
- take off starter , test it by feeding it directly from a battery and look if it runs properly
if yes , change the starter relay (under your seat , near the backlight ) it's a cubic metal box
if not , dismantle it , clean it (especially the commutator) , change brushes and springs , oil bearings and try it directly with a battery

As Alains said, remove your starter and check it out. Brushes are about £15 maximum. A new starter would cost about £200. Try and clean any metal/magnet fragments out of the starter too as that can cause grinding noises when you start the bike. Thumbs Up

You sure its not just a low/dead battery?
You might think your battery is fine because the lights work, etc but starting the bike is a much higher load.

Just a thought since you said it worked last night after you bump started it, it would make sense that the battery got enough of a charge to start the bike.

My suggestion is, before you go removing electrical components is take it for a nice spin or run the engine idle for a half hour (if you have it stripped already)

The reason I say this is because this happened me today. After not running my bike for almost a year, the battery had died, but I could hear the 'click' (The starter trying to crank the engine I think?)

Im no expert but I hope this helps

Narrrr you can trust me on this as i have an NSR and iv had the same problem as you. Its your starter motor as if it was the relay you would get a buzzin sounds not a clicking sound.

The clicking is what the relay is ment to do. Iv known a few different people with the same problem and it was the starter.

u can get a good replacement starter for £40

As I said, im not claiming to be right or anything, just think it might be a good idea to try that before ripping the thing apart lol!

obviously he is right , have little charging on battery . about the relay i do not agree with kingsnight , the relay is just a contact moved by a coil . after a long use the contacts can be destroyed by the sparks , because a starter use beetween 50 and 150 amps . you could hear the relay working but having not enough amps going through the contacts . but 99% of bugs on starter are due to brushes worn and springs tired . brushes+spring are £12 . takes 1 h to take off the starter , open it , change the brushes , clean commutator , oil bearings and refit the lot . if you are going to do it i will give you further infos about cleaning the commutator
