Just bought a CG125 for the other half to practice on before taking her test. Unfortunately it runs badly and missfires at high revs. Really need to know what the carb settings should be for the idle, accelerator pump etc so I can confirm its set ok before I try anything else. Really need this info, but haven't been able to get a manual yet
Cheers

Sounds to me like the timing could be out. If the timing isn't out, try this;

Start the bike up, and ride it around till the engine is warm (running temperature). Then find the mixture screw on the carb. Make a note of where it is, and while the engine is running, turn the screw. I would suggest probably about 1/8 of a turn. First clockwise, then ride it around to see if there's any difference. If not, or if it's worse. Turn it back to where it was and try it in the opposite direction (anti-clockwise). If you can feel a slight difference (improvement) in performance, but not perfect, turn it a bit more in the direction that showed signs of performance increase.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that Smile Thing is, when I bought it, it revved out perfectly.... BUT the throttle would stick open (never much fun especially as the brakes didn't work very well either Shocked ). As a consequence I took the carb apart and cleaned it out etc. This cured the alarming tendancy of the bike to refuse to slow down Wink but I obviously didn't take enough care in noting how far the jets were turned in Embarassed There's the added complication of the accelerator pump setup which I also had to disturb to get the carb apart. I've tried the trial and error method, but various attempts at adjusting in and out haven't really made a difference, which is why I need the proper settings to give me somewhere to start from. I take your point about the timing and it could probably do with an adjustment but as I said, it ran (and ran) ok when I first got it.
Cheers

Take the carb off and check the jets. Make sure they are clear and have no blockages.

The throttle on my friends CG sticks open. What you do to remedy it is; losen the screws that hold the grip twist (throttle) asembley to the handle bars, and slide the asembley to the right. Only a little bit. This should allow the throttle to spring back to idle.

Got myself a Haynes manual. Adjusted carb to correct settings. Now runs much much better. Will have a look at the timing just to make sure everything is as it should be.
The throttle problem seems to be at the carb end, as at the handlebar end it returns with a nice snap.
I guess bearing in mind the age that things aren't too bad. As long as it helps the missus pass her test, it would have been money well spent

You have just opened a thread thats been dead for over 3 years!
Not many people have a Honda CG125 for that long and I would not expect them to keep the Haynes manual.
What year is your bike?
Have you looked for the Haynes manual in Halfords motorbike section?
You can often read it in store.

I know this is an old post i'm replying to but i cannot find what i'm after in other posts and cant for the life of me seem to find the button to start new posts? Shocked

Anyway, i have a honda cg 125 1996, i took the carb off today to clean it and put it back on, seemed ok, but then i turned the key kick started it and it just revved its tits off, so i turned the key off, as i didnt want to damage anything tried about ten different times to fix the problem cant seem to figure out whats wrong with it, i'm no expert with bikes but if someone can let me know if they think they know whats wrong with it i would appriciate it,

also i noticed, when the bike was off i was checking if the accelerator (like the twist grip) and as i revved(while the engine was off) it didnt snap back?

if anyone could help me i would greatly appriciate it Very Happy thanks

Ps, if anyone can tell me how to start new posts that would be great too, haha

New topic is the button you want. Top right.

Was the bike OK before you started to clean the carb? If so it could be you have turned the tickover knob up to much or sticky slider. If non CV carbs you may have put the cable back wrong. Some sliders have a notch so you have to have it a certain way round. Take it apart again and re asemble how the book says.

Thanks for your help guys, it was sticking accelerator cable, my girlfriends dad came and helped me sort it, there was old grease in there gone all hard jamming it up, just my luck that it happens to fully jam up when i'd cleaned the carb, first big piece of work i'd done on the bike (big to me Very Happy ) and i thought i'd messed it up, turns out i did it ok, whahey! cheers for your help and thanks for replying on an old post Very Happy

If any one is interested or runs in to the same problem as i did i'll give a "brief" overview of what was done:

Take accellerator hand bar grip fully off, well not fully off, just enough so you can get to the wire, unclip the wire, similar to brakes on a pedal bike, then we put wd40 down to clear the old grease, then dripped oil down the wire until it came out the other end and then took the top bit of carb off with the spring in it, stretched the spring so it would spring back to place, then put it back together.

i know its not the most detailed overview but i'm no mechanic, hope this helps someone else in the future, with the beast Rolling Eyes that it CG haha
