Yeah. Californian, born and raised. I'm in the central valley. Basically, it's the summer meeting place of smog, heat, and power outages.

How hard is it to gain entrance to your fine country? I've not got a passport or anything like that. I have got legal documentation of my birth etc, though. Would it be any harder in the wake of the recent bombings/attempted bombings?

yeah you will need a passport to get into england, unless you do what most foriegners do and come through the channel tunnel. also you may need a visa
don't think that its any harder at the moment due the bombings, just expect more guns on so than usual. but to be honest for an american you will still think that there are hardly any guns in england. we haven't gone completely crazy and doing cavity searches and making people wait 4 hours at immergation at airports.
what makes you want to come to england?

in america the chavs have guns and will rob you at gunpoint. Here they might just make a disrespectful remark or try to hit you and fall over due to being pissed.

Okay not every yob here carries a gun i own 4 and never used them in any bad way. never seen any gun related crime not all people here are bad. Ill give america that it a fantastic place to live. The chicks dig the english accent. Cali is a Lovely place i dont wanna leave but the cost of living is to high plus im going back to college then uni in the u.k cause its cheaper.

My only real complainet is a few laws. Intention to speed WTF is that. You can turn right on a red light that felt unnatural for the fisrt week.DO NOT do that in england it would be left on the red BUT DO NOT DO IT. lol wheel spin and a fine wow.... i kinda agree with the 21 drinking age. although i miss not being able to go out with my mates.

It wont be hard at all being an american my dad got his renewed last week it was a phone call a meeting.

You will get in no worries.

I've got a few decent reasons for wanting to move to England. those being: I've always wanted to see more of the world and America just doesn't do anything for me. England seems to be the hub for European travel and would serve as an excellent 'home base' as the native population speaks English (go figure). Basically, my life is going nowhere here and I'd love to see more of the world before my brain hardens into the lifeless mass that is the adult mind. I've got thousands more of varying relevance, but those will do.

If I were to make a move, so to speak, it wouldn't be for a while yet. 6 months to a year I would say. Anyone have any recommendations for a relatively crime-free area with a reasonable amount of work available and cheap housing?

I might've. And what of it? Police Tut Tut

Nah, nothing too bad. Four speeding tickets in a year, though. 2 on the bike and 2 in the car. $1,000 in fines which I don't plan on paying. I'm sure they'll get around to suspending my license eventually...

go to a big city up north, cheaper housing than the south, friendlier people, crime is the same everywhere really. cities have good parts and bad parts. i would suggest a place like leeds. big student population and the cities not too big, but loads of opatunities for work! good night out there too! Thumbs Up

Now you know you're a real biker when you get banned in one country. So you move.

England has awesome roads, house prices are fairly mental down south, but if you go up north they have funny accents and you may well get stabbed if you look at them funny.

Do you still actualy have the US licence in your possession? If so, keep quiet about the suspension, UK cops won't know & can't check without involving the US emabassy etc

I'm looking at something in the next six months to a year, most likely. And I will probably be looking to share a place with someone as I'll most likely end up working some crap job at McDonalds or something. Are there a lot of body shops around? I have been known to produce a reasonable paint job on rare occasion. Probably rather do that than serve hamburgers or pump gas.
