 |
|
Filtering to work this morning, non-moving traffic to both my left and my right. An SV650 (May have been a 1000) joined onto my road and was shortly right behind me, revving away like a good'un. Now I was making steady progress, filtering at around 20mph, a speed I felt safe at, and I had no intention of filtering quicker than I was comfortable with.
However, as much as I wanted to pull over to let him past, there were simply no gaps being created, due to traffic not moving. After maybe 3/4 minutes, a gap became available, I pulled in, and this biker went past. As he did overtake though, he's giving me all these hand movements, shaking his head, giving me body language as if to say "FFS". He then proceeded to filter at, what must have been at least 50mph. If someone pulled out on him, it would have been impossible for him to stop. Made me so angry though! |

I drive down the a23 to get to and from work and seen some insane filtering on it, including a cb500 that got his knee down overtaking a lorry to avoid a speed camera
I filter at sensible speeds, been overtaken by alot of ped riders driving like lunatics, dont know what peeps have such an urge to die!

Thanks guys. If you were on a 'big' bike and had a Honda Cub courier or a Ped behind you whilst filtering in heavy traffic, would you let them pass? I did once, let them go in front, and they were just so slow, starting holding me up! |

I can assure you It wasn't me. You did the right thing, and the guy was a tosser. I never filter at more than 20 myself, even when I am able to use a Bus/Cycle/Taxi/Motorcycle lane, because you just can't trust people not to suddenly lurch across you onto a drive or forecourt. It last happend to me in 1989 but since then I've been lucky, and I'm touching wood, and when I'm at work I touch metal ( engineers touch metal not wood )
About 14 years ago my mate was Driving a GPz550 down the centre of one of sheffield's congested ring roads, which is an extremely wide one with 2 lines of stood cars and a huge gap in between for a motorcycle to filter past. When a twisted old codger took umbridge and tried to block his way, he swerved out of his line in an effort to block the centre up to stop bikes going past. My mate managed to still squeeze through the gap, but his footpeg scratched the bottom of the door on this ageing mini metro. What happened next was a 2 year long legal battle, which caused my mate to have his no claims bonus suspended, until the old man's solicitor resigned from the case because it was stupid. And he tried to take up the case by himself, but was just laughed off.
It turned out that the old man was already pissed off because he was commuting 50 miles each day to visit his rapidly fading terminally ill wife in hospital. It's really difficult to imagine what is in other people's heads, and that's only one more reason why you have to be extremely cautious these days. ____________________ Suzuki SV650 naked Blue curvy with Givi Screen and G force can. |
