Hi,
I have a gorgeous 1998 TL1000R which I absolutely love - when it's on the road!
As I only use it at weekends, the battery often flattens easily. In nearly a year I'm now on it's 4th battery and unless I can find another solution I'll be buying a 5th next weekend!

I bought a trickle charger, but it doesn't work with sealed batteries!
I also have nothing to jump the bike from, I can't use the car for fear of cooking something!

Today when I tried to start the bike, it didn't even tick over or try to start, it just made a clicking sound - it this the starter motor and if so what can I do to stop this and make the bike start?

I will disconnect the Datatool, but any other ideas or do I have to buy another battery?

Thanks No_shad

Just bought an Oxford Maximiser, hopefully that'll do the trick!

I take it that you have checked the reg/rec to make sure it's charging the battery? If your batteries are dying that quickly, my bet is that the reg/rec is dead and is frying the battery with 16V or more when you rev the engine. Get a multimeter across the battery terminals and see what the voltage goes up to as you rev the engine. If it's above 14.5V you have a reg/rec issue.

As far as jump starting goes, use the car battery but WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING. The car alternator can fry a bike CDI unit but the battery alone will turn it over just fine.

Cheers

They get to a ravine, the bridge is down and a caption pops up that says, 'What are you thinking?'. I don't know about you but I was thinking, 'Christ, I'm glad I'm not in the f***ing army'.
