Hey, i am about to turn 17 and i am looking for a 125cc bike to upgrade from my 50cc. I have always liked the look of the cagiva and i have wanted it since i was about 17, but the other night i got a shot on an rs125 and i have fallen in love. It is so fast and very powerful.

Could you give me your opinions of which bike and why.

Thank you very much

Kev

rs125, easier to find used, easier to get spares, more aftermarket parts, bigger than a mito, more dealers. Very little difference is performance.

RS a little easier to find but in my opinion makes the mito more special.

Priller, don't know what your on about in size and easier to find parts for the RS, size is about the same if not the mito is bigger....

Mito RS125
Overall length: 1980 mm (78 inches) 1950 mm (76.8 inches)
Overall width: 760 mm (29.9 inches) 720 mm (28.3 inches)
Overall height :1100 mm (43.3 inches) 1135 mm (44.7 inches)
Seat height: 760 mm (29.9 inches) 805 mm (31.7 inches)
Wheelbase: 1375 mm (54.1 inches) 1345 mm (53 inches)

There's a pic on 125ccsb somewhere of a mito & rs together and the mito is smaller, I'll see if I can find it.

I still say its easier to buy parts for a rs, look at the amout of rs parts on ebay. If had a mito I couldn't get it serviced at a cagiva dealer because there aint 1 in wales.

Mitos look very nice, but in my opinion the RS's sound much better than the mito.

The Mito is that pic is clearly ancient, unlike the Aprilia, so that is slightly irrelevant size-wise.

They're effectively the same bike, very very little difference, I'd say Aprilia as they have a better paint finish and parts are easier to buy, and also it will be cheaper to buy as there are lots about.

Its either a 2001 or 2000 so I wouldn't call it ancient. The rs125 is a 2002 and is exaclty the same as a 2000/2001 rs125.

It's only bigger because of the amount of shity plastic. The frame, wheels, brakes (same brembo brakes) are all the same size.

All in all it depends what you like, parts are easy enough to get you just have to speak to mito mondo or go on ebay.

Very little, if any difference in performance when they are both derestricted. rs125 is easier to derestrict though.

I still dont know what i want yet, but i am edging towards the mito but i have found a few reasonablly priced RS bikes.

Does any body have a mito and know how to de-restrict it?

Cheers

None of them are easy to derestrict. The mito just needs a new airbox lid, race exhaust or derestrict the orginal and different jets in the carb for the changes.

I'm sure the RS is the same. Performance wise they are pretty much exactly the same, none are better than each other.

If the rs hasn't got a cat, it just needs the powervalve plugging in or refitting and a br10eg plug fitting. No change of exhaust, airbox or jetting.

The Mito has a 7 speed gearbox whereas the RS only has a 6 speed (if I remember correctly).

Had to change this too "a lot quicker means more services more parts needed.

Services are the same on mito & rs.

Newer mito's have 6. Dont really see having 7 gears as an advantage.

It's just easier to get lost.

Priller, do you ride an RS by any chance?

hi mate,
i would say 4get the rs125 and the cagiva. Go for the honda nsr125.
They are big, meaty and very reliable. Unlike other bikes.
Also thier good for value and getting hold of parts aint that bad.
They dont need engine rebuilds every 2 secounds like the aprilia.
I say give it a shot. As i have a nsr and love it.
Cool

This is very true. I have a mito and it's quite expensive to keep her in top performance all the time, she is 12 years old though bless her.

As far as i know the ride quality between the two bikes is going to be very similar, same for performance and size etc, by the way the both look far too big for 125's, i get so many people asking what size she is only to people dum-struck when i tell them.

It's really down to what you like the look of most, i perfer the mito's 'ducati' styling, bit bias though Rolling Eyes

Got an RS 125 but having said that I've seen quite a few Mito's around over the summer and I do wonder whether I should have gone for one of them instead. The RS is superb for handling and the power is okay (can only seem to get 90 mph out of mine going downhill). In terms of reliability mine seems a pain to start in the cold but there is a knack to starting them. No other real problems but I have heard that the engine needs done every so often. Also only use good quality two stroke oil in them.

As a first bike (which I've also kept after getting my new one) I reckon its a pretty good bike to learn on. Certainly wished I could've afforded one at 17.

Nsr i would say too. The front of the rs's look like a bloated goldfish and a few of my m8's have rs bikes and seem to send more time in the garage than ont he road Rolling Eyes

The nsr is great, i have one looks really cool and can go pretty fast when fully de-restricted too Thumbs Up
