He's just scared his son will have a more powerful bike than his Laughing
My first bike (a 175cc) had a bigger capacity than my dads 125, but hell, his 125 beat the shit outta mine for performance!

I'm gonna be 35 at the end of the month, live miles from both my parents and still get the lecture when i get another bike.

Just sounds like white noise to me. Very Happy

I wouldn't be telling ya dad that peds are ridden hard that will just make him more set against you getting a bigger bike.

Like most have said, more training, full licence and then even your I.A.M.

If you buy it with your own money, and pay for insurance, tax, MOT, petrol, test yourself then you are entitled to have it and ride it of course! If your dad's paying some or all then it's his choice what bike you have and when...

I paid for the Aprilia and Suzuki and will pay for my 400, by working my ass off!

If I was a dad it would be a hard decision for me to let my kid go on the road because if they were to die or get injured I would know that I could have prevented it by saying no.

It's a tough subject, depends which position you're in, you or your dad! I'm lucky my perants let me but I imagine that when I'm riding they are anxious in case I die, like most perants would be. I get anxious if my dad goes out on his ZX9 in case he crashes and dies!

Still I will definately get my kids trail bikes, I will teach them to ride in a field when they are 6-8 so they will at least be able to handle the bikes when they're old enough to get 50s/125s!

Matt

I have had an rs125 for a year. Today I had a go on a 250 scooter and loved it, but Im glad I learned on a bike as the scooter isnt as stable and the brakes arent as good.

I think a 2 stroke 125 is good to learn on as its got enough power to get you out of trouble and handles well enough to avoid it.

Now I'm more experienced I think I wd be ok on a scooter or 4 stroke 125 but Im glad I didnt have to learn on one.

Agree - but then I'm old enough to be your father (and my eldest is sixteen next week!).

He let you have a ped didn't he? So he's not set against bikes in general which is a start.

Maybe he's seen your riding and thinks you're crap or need to grow up first? Judging by the tone of your first post growing up would be half the battle Wink

Work with him, do your own research, and get him on your side. Stamping your feet like a toddler won't get you anywhere. Compromise! (Most Dads are soft as shit, but they have to persuade Mum first and that's nearly bloody impossible!).

My favourite bit of your post is

I am not spending my life on a ped!! NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You won't be 16 forever for God's sake! But you can prepare for being older by developing a mental age above ten!!!

It teaches you a lot to have to pay for something with your own money... Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Listen to your elders, especially your Dad! show respect, and treat him with respect.

Show him that you are responsible "number of ways" and make an effort.

Don't go against his will, not the way to live life. Speak to him like a man.

Don't act like a silly kid, calm down and theres no need to use F words and swear finger signs!

Agreed! and well said. Your 16! You still live under your parents roof and you are still a child and certainly acting like one. I agree with the others when they say wait till your 17, take your test, do some bike safe and as much training as you can. Stay on your ped for now for more experience, dont act like a twat and act responsibly. Then your dad will see that you can act and ride sensibly and he will help you out!. When you get older you will realise how quickly time passes and when your responsible enough you will be riding a larger capacity bike and not hurt yourself!
