Hey all...

Is there any type of Leather you'd recommend in terms of brand or design that would make my life a bit more bearable?

In my country (UAE), for most of the year the daytime temprature is anywhere from 30 to 47 degrees Celsius. Nine months out of the year maybe.

Looking at some posts about people talking about sweating buckets, I'm starting to wonder....is there such a thing as hot weather leather?

Thanx

In that kind of temperature have you considered some good, ventilated textiles instead of leathers?

Not familiar with ventilated textiles. What kind of protection do they offer? (Sliding of course)

Confused

Have a look at Joe Rocket - they do some jackets based on a mesh design with armour.

Don't know about performance when sliding, but they reckon they're good at least.

Not as good as leather, but better than any other alternative.

I'm sure there are a few people here who have crashed whilst wearing textiles. I'm sure they can offer advice.

I had one of these for real hot days just throw a t-shirt other it and wear either leather or textile trousers. Relised how camp i looked and got rid of it but it might be worth a look.

I'd take leathers over textiles any day. I've seen my mates textile jacket after his crash along with his road rash and it wasn't pretty!

Saying that, it was about 65-70mph when he crashed so, impossible to say if leather would have held up any better.

My RST jacket has leather on the arm's, shoulders, waste band and coller but is textile in the centre front and back. Its been cleverly done so at first glance it looks like a full leather one. I find it perfect as its cool in summer and warm in winter. Its gone zip opened air vents front and rear for additional ventilation and the liner is also removeable. I suffer from eczema and find it ideal as the last thing i want is to sweat loads and get a nasty rash Thumbs Down

Here's me wearing it today - goofy smile is me Laughing https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=22693

The RST site is flash so I can't send a link to the relevant page, but go to jackets and scroll down to 'Electrik'

HeHehe...I used to hate these designs...they make you look like a $(*&% cockroach what with the back design and everything. But now that I am hoping to get back to riding I am looking to some real protection, didn't care that much as a kid and teen since most of my riding was in the sand dunes and we didn't have to worry about road rash and what not.

The design looks like it can really save your hide (literally?) against bumps and falls, but will it stay in place when you are sliding on the ground? Or would you need a leather jacket anyway?

In the summer I wear a Frank Thaomas Textile Jacket and Trousers. They have lots of built in armour and are well made. There are vents to open on the front of the shoulders and at the back to help with cooling.

In the winter I have nice thick leathers to wear, it would be torture to wear these in the middle of summer because I would be too hot and drenched with sweat,

Draggin Jeans keep you cooler than leathers, but they obviously ant got as much protection, they really should make a full kevaler jeans set and not just bum, side, and knee protection x.x

Hi, I also live in the UAE, Dubai so I think I could help. You can check the Yamaha dealer for some textile jackets, it's on Sheikh Zayed Road. You can also check Motorcycle 3000 in Diyafah. I think they have Axo textile jackets. I have a Yamaha textile and an Alpinestars leather Stage jacket and the Yamaha one is much better for the summer. However, the armor is alot thinner and the leather one feels alot safer. I've had no accidents that caused me to slide so I wouldn't know about the tearing up. If you want PM me for more details.

First of all, thanx to all for the feedback.

Special thanx to Fire_eyes since he's given me names of shops that are close by.

Crap. 700 Dollars. I've heard of people buying bikes for less than that. HeHehe. But they sure look nice Very Happy

I think I might settle on mesh armor with only an open denim jacket on top.

Your thoughts?

Also, anybody who went down with textiles care to give us some feedback?

I agree with paul, you need perforated leather

I have an old one piece outfit I got off ebay (£60). Its got lots of small holes to let the air through. The holes are as big as the a in the @ sign on your keyboard. There quite a lot per square inch so it lets a lot of air through.

The perforations are on the thighes and chest and back. Its also a loose fit as I didnt check the size when i bought it. This compromises safety but certainly lets the air flow.

You could make your own perforation in some leather you already have but it wdnt be a good idea unless its strong thick leather, and if its strong thick leather, it will be hard work.

I also have a textile jacket and trousers annd they are not as cool as perforated leather.

Anytime mate. You can get a perforated leather jacket for less than 700$. I got my Stage jacket for 330$ and it's perforated on the shoulders and other areas. If you're gonna buy a jacket I wouldn't advise you to buy from the UAE as they'll be alot more expensive. However, if you have no choice or if you jsut wanna get your size you can check motorcycle city in Al Aweer.
