Just bought a sproket kit for my XJ 600n and wondered how to join the chain? Does any one know of any websites for cheap rivetting tools or any other methods of joining it? Confused

Hi

You need a way of riviting the ends together. In the kit there waill be a disassembled link. Once the chain is on you put that link in place, put the plate on the open side of it and then peen over the ends of the pins on that link so the plate cannot come off again.

You really need a chain riviting kit to do this. A cheap one is ~£40 from M&P and the like. These will probably do the job for occasional use.

All the best

Keith

If you bought the sprocket kit with the chain it should have come with a split pin. if it came with a rivit pin there not that hard to do if you have a good ball point hammer or cold chistle,,
you need to put them together as normal and just bash over the edges of the pins.
Mind you, having said that, you get it wrong, its very wrong, the chain could be too tight or in worse case, too loose and fall appart.

this is a chain riveter
