Ok, i have a mate who lives in Sunderland, and he cam over to mine yesterday for my 21st birthday party. Very Happy

Thing is i live in N.Ireland. Now i want to return this nice act, by visiting him around chrimbo time.
I can get a ferry from my home town, (warrenpoint), over to Haysham, near blackpool. This will take 8 hours. Or i can take the larne to stranrare ferry, 1.5 hours away, and the crossing must be about an hour or so.

Now what i am wondering is, would it be easier to go from blackpool to sunderland, or would it be easier to go from stranrare?

Have a look at the route finder on www.theaa.com or www.rac.co.uk.

It will be quicker to nip up to Belfast/Larne and get the ferry from there. Both Stena and P&O do high speed ferries which can cross in 1.5 hours, or 3 hours on a regular ferry. Then Sunderland is about four hours from there. I originally come from near Middlesbrough (about 35miles south of the Mackems) and used to go across to Tyrone to visit my mothers family nearly every year.

Your total travelling time going that route will be less than the ferry crossing alone if you go via Blackpool/Liverpool!!

If i go larne to stranrar, will the ferry company have the appropriate gear to tiedown my bike? Its a cbr600f, so it only has a sidestand.

You're in luck! Very Happy The bikes get put on at the start of loading (before the cars) and strapped down so dont worry about any big waves making your bike fall. My dad takes his CBR600 over by himself once every couple of years. Actually saying that makes me sound young, being 28 and doing my DAS in a couple of weeks means I'll be able to do the trip on a bike soon.

I dont think you can go Larne/Stranraer anymore, think P&O have Larne/Cairnryan and Stena have Belfast/Stranraer routes. **Checked the web site and this is correct.**

Have you been to Sunderland before? If not the best way to experience what it's really like is to do the following.

1. Take a huge dump when you get up in the morning. Don't flush.

2. Leave the mass of turd sitting in the bowl for 24 hours.

3. Now stick your head in the bowl and flush Twisted Evil

Newcastle is great, should have won the city of culture thing that Liverpool won. If you're coming from Stranraer then Carlisle is just a short trip south. Liverpool is nice aswell, a few mates of mine live in or around the liverpool area and they are nice people Rolling Eyes
