Hey Guys, I am looking into getting into racing. I have had track experience and experience on bikes for a long time.. I just want to get into racing for the sheer thrill and fun of it. As i say i have had track experience before. I know how to get hold of an ACU license and obviously a club license.. What i am interested in especially is Racing 125s.. Any idea how i find out what clubs race 125s and what tracks? And if you guys could just generally advise me into getting into a 125cc racing class..

Much appreciated!

If you're wanting to race 125's I hope you're no more than 9 stone. All the lads that race them are really young, power to weight on the lil' bikes really is important. I would join a club and ask around there, if not 125's maybe try the CB5 cup or similar?!

I was up at Darley Moor the other week with our rider Chris Sammons on our R1 and inbetween the 'proper' races, the 125's went out and stuff. Dunno if it's a 125 class or what, but I do know there's an Aprilia challenge cup or something. Phone a race track like Darley or Donno and they'll tell you what to do.

google for bemsee.

and even MRO, they do a superteens class. RS125s I believe.

Other than that, pm jjonth, or search for him and read a few of his posts, he's quite into racing Honda RS 125s.

Give a proper 125 a try and you wont want to go back...

the club you join is likley to be based on your location
Midlands - try EMRA (mallory park) and phone Kevin Tubby 02476 365749 otherwise look up the NEW ERA web site for a spread of circuits

I recommend EMRA as the circuit is easy to learn and the racers spread from some national level down to total novice- no one is too serious and most are running out the back of cars and small vans etc.

avoid BEMSEE as they only really run 125's in their "mini-mono" series and then MRO and unless you are very good and know people already involved with GP bikes you won't handle the MRO straight away

there is a world of difference between a road based 125 and a proper racer - they are addictive and the most smiles per pound

it is the end of the season now so have a look in the back of "Bikesport news" to find a few for sale - for parts go to sp125racing.com

If you are new to racing then we would be interested in following your progress as a sort of feature on our site.

All the best

Where are you based?

If you're talking GP125s (ie Honda RS125 etc) do you know much about them? How old are you and where do you live?

GP125s need a bit more knowledge and fiddling than your average production based bike.
What's your mechanical knowledge like, or do you have anyone that knows what they're doing?

Do you do trackdays? (or is it other 'track experience').

And probably most important, are you aware how much it's likely to cost?

I wouldn't limit yourself too much to GP125.
Does depend what club you're in etc.
For instance bemsee run MZs, which are similarish weight and dimensions, but can generally be done a fair bit cheaper, or Yamaha past masters, again cheap and fairly light. (Though I wouldn't get too hung up on the weight personally.)
MRO runs both GP125 and Aprilia Superteens.
Bemsee did run minimono this year, but not sure if it will be in the line up next year (single, upto 250cc).

Afraid I'm not so sure on which other clubs offer which.
