Hi,

yesterday I did alot of motorway driving any riding. It's a long story but basically I had to drive from lancaster to liverpool, then drive back up from liverpool to Co. Durham, drop off the borrowed car, get bike and ride back down to lancaster.

I came to realise that what little enjoyment there might be in distance motorway driving/riding was sucked out of it by the risk of being got by a camera.... so I was wondering, does anyone have any useful tips to avoid getting caught? where should we be expecting cameras to be or radar cops to be hidden? what different types of cameras are there and what do they look like (like what are those green things on bridges or the ones that look more like cctv?). Any tips on spotting cameras before they spot appreciated Thumbs Up

I find most police are generally on motorway slip roads on the joining ramp. Hence why I pootle past at 85mph and the speed up, but if you've ever seen the sign "Police Patrol Vehicals Only" then they sometimes sit there too.

As for cameras, on the M2 they've got Specs cameras at the moment, and like most cameras, I believe it's a case of seeing them before they see you.

Perhaps try road angel?

I look out for bridges, with transit vans parked on them.
Sometimes they have cameras linked up to them.

Saw this on way to Glasgow last year.

Learnt something, don't ever speed in Scotland and was told that by a lorry driver.

Honestly...I see maybe a traffic cop vehicle once every 3 days on my commute.

(At risk of a torrent of bitching..)

Theres only two ways of not getting caught.

Keep your number plate + bike covedred in mud (you'll get in less trouble for that if your stopped.. probably...)

Or doing the limmit, road angel or whatever wont pick up everything, they wont pick up unmarked cars or even marked ones...

Another thing.. most speedos aren't very accurate, mine reads 80@70(ish) so under the "reccomended" 10%+2mph i could afford to be reading 90mph on the speedo and (theoreticaly) breeze past cameras/lasers e.t.c. No coppers will stop people doing anything under 85 as thats 60%+ of traffic on the motorway..

/Is it really so bad it totaly ruins a ride if you can't go everywhere at any speed you like? motorways just get you there, if you wan't fun go the scenic route.

I get bored and switch off on motorways unless I'm going a bit faster than traffic.

In no traffic, I can happily sit at 80mph, but if I'm following a car at 90, I need to be going faster else I just switch off. Don't know why. Sad
