I don't know what it's called... But it's a smallish piece of metal that is on the right hand side of the bike, and protects the bit that moves when you twist the throttle (Not the handlebar end of the cable)

It's just above the engine, looked like some sort of guard for the throttle cable... Anyone know what this is called on a 2001 CG125? Would Dave Silver have another one?

That blasted plate thing with holes in? All I could see that it did was get in the way of adjusting the carburettor. I guess it's because of the accelerator pump and all that business.

Um. Sorry I'm not much help. Shifty

Get down to a local breakers, tbh if it doesn't affect the way it runs I'd not particularly worry about it.

People tell stories of CG125s still running with no oil, let alone a little guard on the carb.

I've noticed something else as well! On the right hand side of the engine, just below the screw you take off to get to the side panel (With the battery/airbox underneath) there is a loose bolt with no nut on top! Shit! What's that for? Crying or Very sad

You would be surprised at just how many bits can fall off bikes like your CG125 and the similar suzuki/yamaha offerings without effecting the running of it. If its just a little guard ignore it. As for the loose stud 1 see if anything is loose round there then try tightening it finger tight and see if it stops rattling if there was anything, 2 see if you can see what it is supposed to be doing. If it looks like its doing nothing then there may well have once been something attatched to it. Have a look at a manual and see if you can work out what it is for. On My Suzuki GS125 thee was one big bolt came loose and I couldnt work out what it was for, turned out to simply be plugging a hole.

This bike is fucking shit, lost the 2 bolts that attach the exhaust to the swingarm now..

So, total things lost now:

Carb guard
Screw on engine mount
2 screws on exhaust pipe

Things come loose:

Cable that goes into the back of the clocks
Chain adjust locking nuts
Wingmirror nut

What the fuck? Is this a shit bike or am I doing something really really wrong? It's horrific...

Anything more goes wrong and I'm selling and not buying another bike. Sad

That all sounds pretty much par for the course. Tightening them all up properly and keeping an eye on them is pretty much essential. They're all just odds and sods and mostly not dangerous. It's a CG125, it's a little vibey single, put together at minimal cost, but something which can cope with minimal maintenance. Just keep on tightening nuts and looking after it, and you'll be able to move on up once you've done your test. Don't give up on it. Thumbs Up

I'm just going to get a quote for everything I need from Dave Silver, buy a Torque wrench and keep on top of everything myself, I'll tighten them weekly!

How hard a job are chain and sprockets to do for a newbie?

Also, got another problem,

When I select Neutral at the lights, it goes in, but only if I'm revving the engine with the clutch in, when I come to deselect neutral, sometimes it pops back in, and I have to tread on the lever a couple of times for it to fully engage... Is this a worrying issue or something that just happens and is common?

Anyone know how much it'll cost roughly to put in a garage for a service? (Done 6000 miles)

Chain and sprockets aren't difficult to do really. The chain guard can be a bit fiddly, but as it's a split link jobby, it's fairly simple to get the chain off. A socket set, spanners and a screwdriver or two should be enough. Remember to adjust the rear brake to take into account the 'shorter' chain, and loosening the rear wheel and putting it fully forward will make life easier.

Beware of things which go ping - the split link.

The problems selecting first are fairly common. An ill-adjusted drive chain, low or knackered engine oil, an ill-adjusted clutch or in the worst case a bent selector fork/ shaft can all cause it. A more decisive firm boot will help too. I'd check the clutch adjustment first. If drive isn't properly disengaged, it can be difficult to get first in.

Today I discovered that my front axle nut and the swingarm pivot were both loose, as well as having lost one of the bolts for the bottom triple clamp (holding the forks on). Rolling Eyes Tightening them up improved the handling of the machine markedly. I removed the spotlights and their mounting bracket and the vibey buzzing went away, but then an annoying resonance appeared at 10k rpm. Confused
