I know that I'm certainly prone to abandoning it as soon as the going gets tight and I'll quite often be sitting looking at a space going 'no way' when some bloke, invariably on a huge Pan with panniers twice as wide as my bike, will nip through and I'll kinda go and follow him.
Any ladies (or effeminate men) care to back me up, or is it just me that's crap? |
i used to be like that Bendy and would think sod it and follow that person, wondering why i didn't go for it. i've learn't now, how tight a space i can get through. so girls can do it just as well as blokes i would say
it also helps being on a bike that you know has the power to get you out of trouble quickly should you need to
i've also learnt lots from riding with friends who are very fast filterers in heavy traffic. Following my friend once on his B1 (a copper) rush hour on the m25, made me become confident. i'd like to say we didn't go above 70 but i'm not a liar
i really enjoy the challenge of filtering (is that wrong ) i don't get to do it much on the iow. i look at a traffic jam or what ever up ahead and think 'right, here we go then' space invaders with the cars, but i'm not dangerous, on my mirrors all the time and looking well ahead for anticipating what the cars may do to try and kill me
i have found a few times people taking my lead!! the first time it happened a few months ago in pompey, some pratt on the ferry posing about his fazer 1000, i thought oh i'm letting this one go first, soon as we hit traffic in the city, he queued, i came past him and he took my lead!! also had a bike copper follow me on my way to cheltenham, when he turned off he beeped and gave me the thumbs up - made my day! ____________________ Seven days without laughter......... makes one weak. |

I like the size of my bike... it's small.
I do think (usually on my way to work in a morning from Jon's house) "I really shouldn't be doing this" when squeezing through gaps.
If I get a funny feeling then I tend to slow down, but if everything feels fine then I have no problem keeping within my limit of 100mph on the motorway regardless of the speed of the traffic.
Generally I try to not go more than 10-20mph faster than the traffic. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

Depends how fast the traffic's going ...
I also make judicious use of that totally free lane on the other side of the painted lines . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!
