Im thinking:

Is there some kind of restrictor in the gearbox, where it wont let you change up a gear if you are over a certain amount of rpm???

Presume your on about a gsxr? If so nothing should prevent you gear changing at a certain rpm only thing what's retarded is the power which can be bypassed using a TRE.

How many mile's on the bike mate ? If it's really low gearbox still might be a bit stiff or as someone stated you probably didn't put enough pressure on the lever, if it's not doing it all the time I wouldn't worry about it .

my bike had a wierd tantrom where it did it almost every mile or so when going though the gears, but i just give the leaver a good kick every time it did it to me and now it hasent happened for a while now...duno if this healthy for the gearbox, but it worked for mine, but mine is only a 50cc brute Wink lol

get it checked out, go to a garage explain it and see what they say...
