That's OK, I know a ZX6R is 18, and an SV is 13. What bike is it?

Laughing Well it's just so mad.

Surely it wouldn't only go that high? A ZX6R is at least a group 17, and you've got mad machines like the ZX10R and ZX12R!

Group 11 is a good group for a first bike bike, your premiums should be reasonable in that group.

I thought my ZX6 was a 15 and most other 600's a 14.

Just because 2 bikes are the same group it doesn't mean the quote will be the same either.

Depends what you call expensive.

Also depends on how old you are, where you live, how many claims you've had in the past, speeding tickets, where you park it overnight, what security it has on it, what you do for a living, if you're married with kids or gay as a lord, etc!

I insured my brand new group 13 bike, the week after my test, with 0 NCB for £240 FC.

Really though mate, a guy of your age shouldn't even be CONSIDERING spending half a grand on insurance let alone a bloody grand!

Get a smaller cc bike and shop around like mad, otherwise you'll get own3d and be paying out shiteloads for a bike that'll be as fun as one half the engine size.

Hey, you know some folk fall in love with any size of bike, it doesn't have to be a big one!

Some folk stick to 125's for years!!! As seen with the ever so loyal rs owners (or perhaps it's because they never book their tests Wink)

lol my first quote for my 50cc was 1752.40 ........ so insurance scares me, also my ped can do 55 on straight is it wise to push it to this ? it gets to 45 easy but 55 takes a while.

14! Well I'll be darned! Actually that's not a particularly good thing, that means quotes for a Hornet or whatever I'll get won't be that much cheaper! Sad

Right, well an SV650 is group 9. So 11 isn't that good. Think hard about what you want; remember any 600 is going to rip your arms out of their sockets after a 50/125.

OK then.

Insurance on a group 11? I was doing quotes for a ZX6R (14) and the cheapest I got, online, without haggling etc, was £898. Pretty impressive I think you'll agree, I'd imagine I could kick a couple of hundred extra off that if I spent a day calling round.

Just a thought...buy an older bike that you (or your parents) can afford to insure.
