Hiya,

This may sound like a pretty dumb question, but what is the difference between a mo ped and a scooter?

I thought they were the same thing, but reading some posts I'm guessing they are different.

Thanks

Love Bec xxx

A scooter is a scooter style of motorcycle.

A moped is a motorcycle with less than 50cc and capable of no more than 32mph (I think) also it does not have to have a full set of headlights or a number plate light.

These can be motorcycle style bikes or scooters.

Once de-restricted a "moped" becomes a 50cc motorcycle and must have the full headlights and number plate lights.

Some manufacturers provide all the stuff needed for a 50cc motorcycle but restrict the vehicle to a moped, for 16 year olds... so it's then legal when the owner derestricts it, provided they have the appropriate licence. Mine was like that Smile

Yes the speedfight is like that.

They sell the 50cc one with 100cc spec everything else bar engine and CDI etc.

That way they are only making one bike - one gets a differant paint job and a 100cc engine, the other 50cc.

Well each to their own, but I've been using these since 2000 and never fealt to try something else.

As a fair weather only driver, Boppers are (one of) the stickiest tyres you can get. Yes they suck in rain (it is a street-legal slick), but I couldn't drive for more than 30 minutes anyways because of the wear and tear, but that's all cool. The Boppers can also be bought with extra soft compound for even more grip.

Scooterscene is huge here and most cosmetic parts are made by myself and all polished by hand by me.

This was when it was still non-chav.

Now it's like the VW Golf/Opel Kadett scene (that would be Vauxhall Nova/Astra to you I believe) where EVERYbody has the same exact parts, which can all be bought.

Parts that I made myself are now readily available.

But chav as you may find it, there's 100's of hours of work in it. And too bad you can't see the mechanical parts.

Check my brakes for instance. 220mm full-floating disc + 4pot Braking caliper. This thing stops on a dime.

And it's FAST. (I won't bore everyone with lists of parts, but there's nothing stock on) Main power comes from a liquid cooled Polini Evolution 72cc aluminium racing cilinder with nikasil lining and modular combustion chamber, breating to a Mikuni 24mm flatslide and Yasuni Carrera20 expansion chamber.

Nah, it aint chavvy, it hasn't got neons or a technigas exhaust, and hasn't got "NOS" and "Max Power" stickers all over it Laughing Theres a difference between customising something and chavving something..

Personally I think it's a waste of money, If your gonna spend that much money to make it faster you might as well buy a new bike. If you don't mind me asking how much have spent on it? and what is it protected by? (locks) I would imagine It is a big target for chavs.
