Selling my van and dont need to buy a new one.

my question is I really want a motor crosser to play on in the winter Very Happy and save the GSXR , looking at Honda and Yamahas 250cc whats good and whats bad from personal experience and also must be potentially road legal? could stretch to £3k not fussed about 2 or 4 stroke but the lighter the better, many thanks

erm,
You ideally want an 'enduro' style machine which has lights etc.

I think for someone who has little offroad experience a 250cc two stroke off road bike is too much.

A 250cc four stroke is probably about right TBH.

Korn has a Honda XR250 that is nice, I rode it offroad for a bit and was quite impressed.

Shouldn't this be in the offroad forum?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

But the ones with more toys probably have more fun before they die - or that's my idea anyway Razz.

Depending on what you want it for, I would consider a ktm200EXC or Gas Gas EC200, they are 2 stroke enduro bikes so have a bit more low down go than a mx bike, but are also very light.

They also do 250cc and 300cc version of both. The bigger versions both make about 50hp peak, but with progressively more torque lower down.

I've got myself an 87 ktm 350 enduro, which is a bit more interesting as a first time off road bike.

How do you see yourself using the bike; enduro, greenlaning, mx, road use, etc?

Go for a two stroke you'll be forever in the shop with the putter! I've had both a YZ426 (Sheer crap!!!) and a CRF450 which was better as had no de-comp leaver. But you'll still need to drop the oil after every ride and if they go wrong it'll be a vertical price bill. Go for the 250 all day long. All you need for a day time mot is a number plate and tax anyway.

mostly green laning and a bit of road use when weathers a bit crap. not fussed about comfort on commute as the journeys only about 4-5 miles across town.

for mot not sure about lights, is it a case of if they're fitted they have to work but you can pass the test if none fitted? if that makes sense.
