Problem: Derestrited my NSR today (upped jets as recommended, drilled out exhaust restrictor (what a b*tch that is) and took out the plate in the intake. Started her up, fine. Took her for a spin - loads of white smoke, so i waited for it to warm up some more and then gave it some stick. It blummin' flew until about 3 miles away from home when it sounded like it had run out of petrol (revs dying slowly) then the back locked up! I pulled in the clutch and tried starting her again - the engine wasn't turning over after pushing it home me and my team of mechanics (my dad and my mate) examined the carb, unfortunately someone had forgotten to reconnect the oil hose to the carb.
Fix: Took head off and unseized it, plenty of oil and some force did the trick. Reconnected the carb (with oil hose) etc and started her up. She ran fine so i took her for a spin, got to my mates house (about 1 1/4 miles away)
Problem: Pulled up, lots of white smoke, only just ticking over so i turned it off expecting another long walk home. Left the bike for 5 mins and then started her up, didn't sound very healthy (just rough, nothing in particular) turned it off, switched the fuel tap onto reserve, left another 5 mins, started her up (sounded fine) and rode home. Still quite a lot of white smoke coming out.
Question: Is the smoke just the NSR clearing its throat of 6 years of restriction + bigger jets or something more serious?
Will it still run fine after a seizure (even a small one)?
Thanks a lot. |

a bike will run after a seize, but it depends on the piston / barrels condition, a bike will run with a scored barrel but it will have lost a fair bit of compression
My old derbi senda used to run with plenty of white smoke with the engine running hot or cold but never affected performance or got worse?
I used some of that special oil that reduces smoke and it did work quite well but didnt really bother me personally? ____________________ add me to your msn messenger contacts : [email protected] |
