No, it is a 1953 plunger frame A7 (500cc pre-unit twin). The apes are the least of your worries, it has had 4" chopped out of the frame top-tube and 6" over standard forks. Home sprayed bantam tank, slash-cut drag pipes, external paper oil filter. The apes are necessary, as has been said, the guy is fecking huge, normal apes make it look like a kiddies bike with him on it. They are also cool.
It was built to elicit the exact reaction you had when ridden to classic bike shows. It is (well was, before it caught fire) better than 90% of the concourse vintage bikes you will see because it ran and was ridden to the shows under its own power.
