i've become obsessed at flicking the engine kill off for a sec then on again causing a really loud backfire and huge flames from the zorst.

but what damage will it end up doing to the bike?

i can't help but point my left hand at somebody then backfiring the bike, hilarious how high people jump Laughing

Just make the exhaust leak and possibly damage the valves.

it's not the speed that affects the backfire it's the rpm, i normally go up to about 10k, flick the engine off for a second, then flick the engine kill back on, normally you'll get a huge backfire and large flame. depends on the rpm and duration you leave the engine turned off

Usually doesn't work on injected bikes, by the way - as they stop injecting fuel into the engine when you hit the kill switch.

Err, it's not really very scary if you're expecting it.

Different bikes need different techniques to get it right.

Usually going down a hill with throttle open and engine off, then turning the engine on again does it well enough.

Carbon exhausts don't tend to do it as well, presumably because they don't get as hot.

Probably why i love them.

You get a bigger bang if you open the throttle wide whilst the kills witch is on, and the bike must still be in gear and the clutch out, saw 6 foot long blue flames out of the cans on my mates Firestorm.

It's just a loud bang nothing cool. Confused

My art exhaust used to occasionally spit out a few flames at night time if i was ragging it, combined with the popping sound it was pretty sweet. Cool

It works fantastically well on old tech thumpers like on motocross bikes. My 4t 125 does it beautifully. It's so good, it must be illegal.

As G says it wont work on a Fuel Injected bike, Ive seen endless people try and fail...however a 2004 ZX6R with an Akky race can, down changing at stupid revs pulls some very nice flames and opos and bangs lol

It's not healthy for an engine to rev that high while not under load ,
one of the lad's i know around here kept doing it on his GSXR 1100
it went bang eventually , shame really because it was a lovely low milage engine too and i was hoping so get the motor off him cheap once he had wrecked the bike.

I tried this a couple of weeks ago, couldn't really tell how it sounded. I know I guy who rides a Suzuki Intruder 125, the v-twin cruiser. He's pretty good at metalwork and stuff and he's made two slashcut straight-through pipes, it sounds absolutely fearsome just idling. Backfiring that under a bridge is something to behold Shocked .
