Was reading this article https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4498934.stm

And I can't really see any downsides to it.
fairly enviromentally freindly, as your C emitted was abosrbed fromt eh atmosphere fro the plant to gro in the first place.

+ would lower our reliance on the generally dodgy countries where most oil is located, USA Wink, Iraq etc...

Would it be easy to convert a standard bike to run on this stuff?
Or would it cause problems in the generally higher revving bike engines?

EDIT: I am reffering to bioethanol, not bio-diesel.

Hi

Only one small down side, which is that ethanol has a lower energy content by volume so you need to burn more fuel for the same power. That just means jetting the bike up a bit richer and putting up with a shorter range from the same size fuel tank.

Less of a problem on a new car where they can use the feedback from the lambda probe to adjust the mixture to compensate for whatever fuel you happen to be using that day.

All the best

Keith

Ok so my bike ,FJR 1300, could theoretically do it as well as a car.

It has an "Oxygen probe" in the exhaust system, which I am assuming is the same (or similar) as the lambda probe in a car?

Hi

In theory yes. In practice probably (just in case the extra fuel requirements are outside of the range that the ECU allows).

All the best

If you had a rough night before hand just breathing into your CG's tank next morning would have it running Wink

Good idea, there would be less pollution, too. It would be interesting to see how they adjust it for seasonal differences.

If anyone remembers the ford super stallion concept, it ran on ethanol, petrol or any mixture of the two. Curiously, it produced more power running on alcohol than it did on petrol. It was very highly tuned, though.

With a little additional plumbingwould this qualify as 'Biofuel" ?
With all the B.S put out by the goverment a couple of refineries could close and help to heal the ozone layer.

there was a tv program on bbc news 24 that said in brazil, 20% of cars run on ethanol and although fuel consumption was a bit higher, it cost about a fifth of the price of petrol

Out here in South Africa we get quite a percentage of alcohol blended in the fuel for leaded engines. The unleaded fuel is 'pure' and contains no alcohol.

You'll see filters in the pump fuel hoses on the leaded pumps. This is coz the alcohol absorbs water and rusts the tanks.
