Ok on a serious note has anyone set up a small business or such?
My friend and myself want to start up selling biker/fetish clothing and jewellery and really don't know where to start!

id start with writing up a very thorough buisness plan of what is it you want to sell, how your going to sell it, who will buy it, predicted expenses e.g premises website design, stock e.t.c, markup, profit, the works with ALOT of market research the better and more acurate the idea you can get of how the buisness will run before its actually running the smoother and easyer it will be. then you have something to go see a proper new buisness advisor with. the ones at banks are usually free for a consultation but they will have the agenda of making money out of you. (id go see lots of them to try and see through the bullshit) indipendant advisors will be impartial but you have to pay for their time! its probably worth going to see the inland revenue aswell they can help explain how your taxation and the like will change. hope thats of some help! Thumbs Up

Im in the process of starting up as a franchisee.

Different to going it alone as such as you have the support of an organisation behind you, possibly look see if theres a chain of fetish/bike clothing shops you could open one up as a franchisee?

https://www.british-franchise.org/

Down sids to this is you have to have money to invest initially, but the upside is you should get the support and buying power from the large group of shops.

Thats very good advice - my wife was working full-time and selling a bit on ebay but she has given up her job to be my full-time carer but has expanded her ebay "business" and is now in the throes of designing her own website to sell stuff. Selling online will keep overheads to a minimum. My mate had a record shop in the high street and the rent, business rates, lighting etc crippled him and had to call it a day after about 9 months. Test the water online first, then re-assess your options. Thumbs Up

I've put some advice on another "business start up" thread which you might find useful. It focusses on the need to put together a business plan and rather than post the same narrative in full I'll just give you the link instead.

Best of luck Thumbs Up
