ok sorry but i have lots of questions so i thought i would put them all in one so as to not take up too much space (and my time Exclamation )
anyway here we go:

1. what is the best 125cc bike i can get for preferably under £1k but could maybe stretch to £1.5k. i want a sporty looking bike, not a scrambler or anything. if anyone has pics of them that would be excellent

2. i want to pass my test a.s.ap, i can do theory easily but does anyone know if there is a course that isn't too expensive which i can do? any links or phone numbers would be excellent

actually thats pretty much it!
cheers
ben

ps. i saw this TT race or something on men and motors, if was f'ing awesome, has anyone been to the roads they were racing on? if not we should go up there!

From complete new rider to passing your test? How longs a piece of string. Depends on how quickly you get good with the bike, and how long it takes you to become normal and not a learner on the roads.

I passed my test after about 3,000 miles of riding, without any lessons

ok im gonna sound like such a dumb loser, but if i took like two lessons to get the basics then just went round on the roads on my own for a while to feel confident then maybe got 2 more lessons to perfect my skills do you reckon that would be enough.

the complete loser bit was can you go round by yourself just as long as you have l plates?

do you also think i could get away with having no lessons like you ste?

cheers ben

lots of "if's" there m8.

Take your CBT and then you will have 2 years until you need to sit your test. In that time you can ride your 125 as you like with no instruction.

You will be taught all the basics in your CBT

Doing spread out lessons is a bad idea. If your going to do them, do them as close togther as you can. Its worth spending a while riding on your own, just to learn stuff which they can't teach, like general road sense.

You can ride around on L plates on your own with just a CBT Smile

Anyone can do it with no lessons. You just need to ride, and be prepared to take several attempts at your test. I passed 3rd time. First one I put my foot down in the U turn (me being stupid Sad ) Second one I got a major for "observation at a junction" cos I got cut up Confused Third time I past. Cost me £150 in total

on my licence it says i can drive a 50cc bike with no L plates, so do i still need to do the CBT??
Mr.Everready,
i got offered £850 TPFT.

the money for bike will come from 18th b'day money (looking at about £1000) plus money from working over the summer (around £700) and i will have a job at uni to cover test costs

so ste, if i just rode around on L plates and kept trying tests would it work out being cheaper than getting loads of lessons and passing 1st time??

cheers

£850 TPFT sounds quite a bit Confused I'd be expecting to pay about £600-800 depending on area, and your age. Your what 18-19?

Once you have passed you car test, your allowed a 50cc with no L plates. Have you got normal motorcycle entitlement on your license? If not, you need to get it.

£700 for an entire summer? You can get more than that in MacDonalds Razz

Assuming you only take your test when you are ready, then yes it is cheaper. Problem is, I reckon it's down the the examiners mood, how many other passes and fails they've done, and all other mistakes people make on the roads seem to get blamed on you Sad

Are you in any hurry to pass your test? If not, get loads of experience, get into good habits, and you should pass quite quickly Wink A lesson is about £20-25, and a test is £48 so you can do the maths.

ok, i might be a bit thick here but are you saying to ride a 125cc bike with L plates i still need to do the CBT or does my licence now cover it.

i'm not in a hurry to pass my test, as long as i can ride the nsr with L plates.

also, im working from like mid july to october i think, so £700 is alright innit?

by the way i'm 17 but will be 18 when i start learning

cheers

I don't actually know. I think you have to have a CBT whatever, and your allowed on a 50cc without L plates once you have a full car license. You will have to have L plates on the NSR

£700 for 8 weeks work? Confused Thats like £2.20 per hour if your doing a 40 hour week Rolling Eyes

A 125cc on L plates can only be driven with a CBT and a provisional bike license.

CBT is about £90 and takes 1 day

OK, you need the CBT for a 125 so do that anyway - prices range from £60 - £100 depending on where you are in the country.

Then I took a 4hr lesson and my test the next day - you may be able to pass in the same time, you may not. I'd been driving cars for a living for 3 years (IT Field engineer) and driving in general for eight plus I had my NSR for a couple of years. Took a year off riding and did CBT, lesson day and DAS thurs, friday and Monday.

5 day courses are generally a waste 3 days is good if you are a novice - go to your local bike shop and get a list of a few instructors then call them. If the will only do a set course, hang up and ring the next one. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT and they should be willing to train you as much as you need. You may need 2 hrs, you may need 2 weeks.
