i've used it for a good 5 years now.
it involves you signing up to a server such as Newshosting, Unlimited accounts cost around 8 quid a month.
well worth it, it's isn't P2P. you download at full speed ALL THE TIME, i get 256kb/sec all the time on my 2mb line. you upload NOTHING!
you'll need to sign up to a server first, Astraweb and Newshosting are good. then you'll need to download your software to read from the Usenet service so go to www.newsleecher.com and download it (various cracks available) i paid my 20 quid as i think think the developer deserves the money , you'll then need to sign up to www.newzbin.com this provides the NZB files for Newsleecher to use. NZB's are basically shortcuts to the files on the Usenet service (Newzbin costs 1quid a month ) ____________________ Turbo R1

Usenet may also be refered to as 'Newsgroups'. Your ISP will probably have a server that you can use, though ISP servers are often overloaded and crap.
Usenet servers are linked together, so when you post a message to your own server it will quickly be spread to all other servers worldwide. Usenet is divided into 'groups', which are arranged into categories by a naming hierarchy, eg porn would go in alt.binaries.porn (except that there are groups for specific kinds of porn, so you would have alt.binaries.porn.lesbians etc). Most of the interesting stuff (and nearly all the porn/warez/piratemedia) is in 'alt.*', however there are country specific roots so poke around in 'uk.*', and also some roots to serve specific interests eg 'comp.*' for groups to do with computers.
Your email client will probably let you access News servers, but if you get properly into it there is specific software for specific purposes. eg Archiving a group, mass binary downloading or posting. I've never properly got into usenet file leeching, but I believe most of the good stuff is now posted using yEnc (which MS Outlook does not support). ____________________ Hard livin', hard luck. |
