Prompted by fuzz's posts about his hacking website, here's some info on how you can get some privacy by encrypting your emails.

First off, if you've not already dropped Outlook Express do it now. You use FireFox rather than IE, so why not use Thinderbird rather than OE?

So, download and install Thinderbird.

Next you'll need to install EnigMail. This is an extension for Thunderbird which allows you to encrypt/decrypt messages, digitally sign emails that you send so that people can verify they're from you and unmodified, and it also includes a key manager.

To install it, download THIS FILE. Then in Thunderbird, click the Tools --> Extensions --> Install. Then select the file you downloaded.

Once you've got everything installed, you need to generate your keypair. You give the public key out to everybody, and you keep the private key to yourself.
Best thing to do is upload the public key to a keyserver, so that people who want to send you secure emails can find your key.
These two keyservers are good:
https://pgp.mit.edu/
https://www.keyserver.net/
They will also send your key on to other keyservers round the internet.

Now you're all set!
You can sign emails with your private key, and people can verify that they're genuine using your public key. You can also decrypt emails people have sent to you with your private key if they've encrypted them using your public key.

Funky stuff. Just a shame more people don't use it.

My public key:

You can configure as many different accounts as you like in Thunderbird. Can do the same in Outlook etc too.

i agree with siggi but im sure its fun to set up all this stuff if you are into it.

I downloaded thunderbird a while ago but ive no idea how to set it up to just do the basics like receive my mail.

my outlook has locked me out due to some password confusion but webbased hotmail lets me in

i guess outlook as a different password registerd or something

i guess i should care enough to sort it out, but i just use the web based email instead
