PostPosted: 18:23 - 04 May 2003    Post subject: Oil On Front Wheel??!! Reply with quote

I was washing my bike earlier and i noticed some sprays of oil behind the front wheel.
When i checked after cleaning i found that it was coming from the centre of the wheel where the thingy (im v.technical!) runs through, u know the bit that joins the wheel to the suspension.
Should This be here? if not what is the problem? and is it serious?
Thanks
J

Have you checked your brake caliper? Don't really know what could be causing it from the axle. Did you take it apart?

It could be leaking from the forks. Check the seals, or get someone to check it for you Wink

Worth checking to see if there is any on your tyre, as that could cause a crash

I havnt taken it apart, its on the wrong side of the wheel for the brakes. And it is def' oil, cus after i washed it u could see it layer on top of the water.
Ive just checked the forks and they apaer clear.
If i wipe it away and then go back a few mins later it seams to be seeping from where the axle goes in to the wheel.

It may be a leak from the damper holding bolt.

Ideally, to test you would need to get the wheel / axle off really. Then check the bolt that is underneath there, you may just need to tighten it up if you're lucky. It may be something more serious, like a knakcered bolt, thread or washer.

Hi

I agree with G. There is a bolt in the bottom of the fork going upwards, probably with an allen key head. This should have some kind of seal on it (probably a copper washer). I would say this is leaking. Only other problem is that this has probably affected the oil level in that fork, so you will probably have to check the fork oil levels

All the best

Keith
