https://82.33.197.114/Sys-Dev/index.php

Note the rollover as you hover over the links on the left.

I need the pop up bit to stay in one place, absolutely rather than relative to the link. I can't seem to do it.

Here's the CSS, and I've played with a few things...

Css page is https://82.33.197.114/Sys-Dev/Layout.css

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Gaz

Yeah I really should learn to copy and paste links instead of typing what I think they might be.

I had lower case all over the place.

I'm thinking I might have to make a seperate pop up for each link... That would work, but would be very messy..

You could try this:

By specifying the <td height="20"> you just subtract 20px from the top in the <span style>

See it in action: https://www.crieffcomputerservices.com/testing/

Quote:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" >
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:210px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:190px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:170px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:150px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:130px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:110px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:90px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://www.google.com/">Google.com<span style="top:70px;">Google is a search engine.</span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td height="20"><a class="link" href="https://82.33.197.114/Sys-Dev/recipe1.htm">Random Recipe<span style="top:50px;">A random recipe</span></a></td></tr>
</table>

Surely you can use absolute positioning in relation to the page?

Just to add, the CSS file for the span now looks like this:

Quote:
a.link:hover span {display: block;
position: absolute; left: -35px;
width: 125px; padding: 5px;
z-index: 100; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; background-color: #A4D3EE;
font: 10px Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: center;}

I just removed the TOP and MARGIN parameters Thumbs Up

Now how do I deal with the left/right positioning, because in the real deal the links won't all have the same text. And therefore positions it different.

Can't you just change it in here:

Quote:

#leftsection {
width: 140px;
float: left;
border: 0px solid #000;
padding: 3px;
background-color: #A4D3EE;
text-align: left;

}

You had it centred. I know what you mean though. If the text goes onto another line then it will knock out the 20px td height. Only way round that is to increase the #left section {width}

Yeah, I think it's because they're centred it gets arsey, because it's positioned relative to the first character methinks.

Whereas if they're left aligned all the first characters are in the right place.

I'll do that, this isn't a site that I'm making for pleasure, it's a uni assignment so I don't really care what it looks like.
