Quite interesting... Have a looksie Smile

https://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/odds.htm

It's USA based, so results are probably different for the UK.

Couldn't be bothered to read it all, but quite interesting. I think it will be different from the UK too. Also, is it legitimate? Anyway, is 'looksie' another one of these 'clicky' and 'linky' type of words?

Oh aye, course you didn't *wink wink, nudge nudge*. I'm surprised by some of them. I thought that this would have been much much more:

Here's a pretty horrifying one:

Motorcycle deaths in a year: 3,215

Car, van, etc deaths in a year: 21,000 or so.

If motorcycles make up 1% of the vehicles, as they purportedly do, if we were all riding motorcycles that's 321,500 deaths a year compared to the 21,000 if we all drove cars.
So the odds of dying on a motorcycle are about 15 times higher than the odds of dying in a car.

Shocked Ouch.

On GR2 it says something like 16times. Watching that was easier then doing the maths Razz

Ahem, if you read it tho, it shows we are nearly 5 times LESS likely to die (per year) then car occupants, and 2 times less likely to die then pedestrians.

Bless em. Remember its odds, not deaths we are looking at.

Meh,

I don't believe in odds anyway.

You can't use maths to factor in rider skill and attitude.

Actually... Cool (look smart hahah) From the back of 'The Police Rider's Handbook To Better Motorcycling' it states "Motorcyclists are on average 35 times more at risk of death or serious injury than car drivers."

Thumbs Up

Aka any trip involving hospital.

So anytime you smack your head they send you to hospital.

So basically anytime someone comes off its counted into that.

Whereas how many serious car crashes do people walk away from Confused

You have a point, but I suppose it depends on the authors and our definition of 'serious injury'

great post proving that the site is incorrect. stats incorrectly used. to work it out properly they need to know how many deaths per user.
